Making the Choice to Downsize

Join the Ageless Group on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the Library to hear from three parishioners about the choices they made when deciding to downsize their housing. Rev. Vance and Mary Johnson will talk about their decision to give up their family home, how they assessed the accommodation choices before them, and moved into a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC).  Susan Browne will outline the different choices she made. All three will share their insights, experiences and lessons learned, several months after they moved.

The Gifts for Kids Programs done in conjunction with Cornerstones is your opportunity to play Santa for some of Reston and Herndon's less fortunate. The wish lists are available in the Narthex; gifts are due at the Cornerstones' office (11150 Sunset Hills Rd., Suite 210) no later than Saturday, Dec. 6. Appreciation Luncheon & Listening Session on the Future of St. Anne's

We have one more Appreciation Luncheon scheduled for this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. This Luncheon will be for our Sunday School parents and teachers and Adult Education participants and leaders. Our previous two Luncheons for Worship Leaders and In-Reach and Outreach Ministries have been wonderful with a great lunch from Cafe Sano. We are looking forward to this Sunday's Appreciation Luncheon!

This will be the third of three luncheons. These luncheons are a chance for the clergy and vestry of St. Anne's to say thank you to the people who make St. Anne's such a warm, welcoming, and thriving community. Vestry and clergy will also lead a discussion about the future of St. Anne's. We have sent out an e-mail invitation to Education leaders and families asking them to join us in the Great Hall on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. If we don't have a correct e-mail address for you or if it landed in your spam folder, please know that we really want everyone to join us if they can. Please RSVP to Susan if you are able to join us this Sunday.

The remaining luncheon, this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the Great Hall, is for our Education Ministries: Adult and Youth Education; Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Youth Group, Book Discussion, Bible Study, Voice for Life Choir, Children's Bells & Chimes, etc. Childcare will be provided for children at this session. The children will have lunch in the Library and watch a movie with some of our teen volunteers.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us. We really hope you will come and join us as we celebrate you!

Christmas Wreath-Making Workshop.

Decorate a fresh green wreath for your home! Suzi Jones and Martha Furniss will teach you how to make a bow and offer hints to decorate your wreath. Then you can take it home to hang on your door! The wreath-making workshop will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8:30-10:00 a.m. in the Library.

Provided: A mixed green wreath, ribbon, limited decorations, wire for hanging, some scissors to use on site

Bring with you:

  •  $15.00 (checks made out to St. Anne's) to pay for the wreath and basic supplies
  •  Decorations to wire onto your wreath (optional) - holiday trinkets, bells, use your imagination
  •  Ribbon - if you want a specific color for your decor - 1.5 inch wide, wire edged is easiest to use when learning
  •  Your own scissors to cut ribbon, wire cutters - we have some loaners

Please let us know if you plan to attend  so we make sure we have enough supplies. E-mail Suzi Joneby Monday, Dec 1, so we can order the right number of wreaths!

Give the Gift of Warmth this Christmas
Being homeless is hard any time of year, but especially at Christmas. St. Anne's is working with the nearby Church of the Epiphany to provide a hypothermia shelter Christmas week, Dec. 21-28. Please give from your heart to provide the least fortunate among us with the gift of warmth this Christmas. Friends or family visiting? Bring them with you and create a new family tradition! Must be 18 or over. Click here to reserve your time slot. For more information contact David Safford (202-494-3041).
