Cuba Mission Trip and Meeting

There are still openings for our next trip to Cuba. Even though we travel next March, the deadline to commit to this trip is Sunday. This is because of the time it takes to secure religious visas. If you are curious about this trip and are considering joining us, please speak with Eleanor Ware. Additionally, there will be a Cuba Mission meeting on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for all who are interested in going on the Cuba Mission trip. Vamos!

Food Pantry

The next distribution is on Thursday, Nov. 20. This month we are in need of low sugar cereal, pasta sauce, jelly, size 6 diapers, reusable bags, and dish towels. Residents at the Fellowship Houses have asked for new dish towels.  Also, some parishioners have scheduled office parties at which they are asking for food donations for the pantry. If you have an office party or other large party this holiday season, please consider asking for pantry donations. Thank you very much for your support.

Choosing Where to Live When Its Time to Downsize

Join the Ageless Group on Saturday, Nov. 22 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the Library to hear from three parishioners about the choices they made when deciding to downsize their housing. Rev. Vance and Mary Johnson will talk about their decision to give up their family home, how they assessed the accommodation choices before them, and moved into a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC).  Susan Browne will outline the different choices she made. All three will share their insights, experiences and lessons learned, several months after they moved.

Appreciation Luncheon & Listening Session on the Future of St. Anne's

Last Sunday's Appreciation Luncheon was wonderful! We had a wonderful turn-out from our Worship ministries and a wonderful lunch from Cafe Sano. We are looking forward to this Sunday's Appreciation Luncheon with Mission and Outreach ministries.

This will be the second of three luncheons. These luncheons are a chance for the clergy and vestry of St. Anne's to say thank you to the people who make St. Anne's such a warm, welcoming, and thriving community. Vestry and clergy will also lead a discussion about the future of St. Anne's. We have sent out an e-mail invitation to Outreach and Mission ministries asking them to join us in the Great Hall on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. If we don't have a correct e-mail address for you or if it landed in your spam folder, please know that we really want everyone to join us if they can. Please RSVP to Susan if you are part of our Outreach or Mission ministries and are able to join us this Sunday. E-mail invitations for the other ministries will go out shortly.

The two remaining luncheons are divided into the following ministries:

Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. in the Great Hall: In-reach and Outreach Ministries

(Pastoral Care, Helping Hands, Lay Eucharistic Visitors, Men's Group, Women's Group, Missions-- DR, Philadelphia, Cuba, Dungannon, Mission Possible, Habitat, Relay for Life, Food Pantry, FACETS, Nightly Bread, Project Liberia, Front Porch Singers, Hypothermia Shelter, etc.)

Nov. 23 at 1:00 p.m. in the Great Hall:  Education

(Adult and Youth Education; Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Youth Group, Book Discussion, Bible Study, Voice for Life Choir, Children's Bells & Chimes, etc.) Childcare will be provided for children at this session. The children will have lunch in the Library and watch a movie with some of our teen volunteers.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.  We really hope you will come and join us as we celebrate you!

Christmas Wreath-Making Workshop.

Decorate a fresh green wreath for your home! Suzi Jones and Martha Furniss will teach you how to make a bow and offer hints to decorate your wreath. Then you can take it home to hang on your door! The wreath-making workshop will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8:30-10:00 a.m. in the Library.

Provided: A mixed green wreath, ribbon, limited decorations, wire for hanging, some scissors to use on site

Bring with you:

  •  $15.00 (checks made out to St. Anne's) to pay for the wreath and basic supplies
  •  Decorations to wire onto your wreath (optional) - holiday trinkets, bells, use your imagination
  •  Ribbon - if you want a specific color for your decor - 1.5 inch wide, wire edged is easiest to use when learning
  •  Your own scissors to cut ribbon, wire cutters - we have some loaners

Please let us know if you plan to attend  so we make sure we have enough supplies. E-mail Suzi Joneby Monday, Dec 1, so we can order the right number of wreaths!

If you haven't bought your Christmas cards yet this season...WAIT! St. Anne's is selling Christmas cards featuring the words that you used to describe our church at the beginning of this year in a seasonal design! Wrapped in a beautiful package they are $15 for a package of 10.  We received orders for over 1,000 cards on Sunday and had to order a reprint this week. They'll be available at Sunday's services or by contacting Tim Barwick. Please click here to see a PDF of the card. Proceeds will benefit Outreach and Mission Trips.

Sign Up for  a Thanksgiving Box!

As always, St. Anne's has had an amazing response to the Thanksgiving Boxes drive.  We had a new goal this year to provide 100 Thanksgiving dinners to needy families in Reston and we have over 80 boxes signed up for. Now we need you to bring everything in by this Sunday, Nov. 16 (you can leave them in the Sunday School hallway.)  We still have boxes available in the Narthex with the sign-up sheet.  All monetary donations and gift cards should be marked with a box number and left in Tim's mailbox.  Click here to see a list of items to include in the boxes.

We will also need volunteers to deliver the boxes on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. to a local donation site in Reston. To volunteer please click here. Questions? Please contact Robin George.

Give the Gift of Warmth this Christmas
Being homeless is hard any time of year, but especially at Christmas. St. Anne's is working with the nearby Church of the Epiphany to provide a hypothermia shelter Christmas week, Dec. 21-28. This is an extremely volunteer-intensive effort, and the shelter needs as much help as it can get. Please give from your heart to provide the least fortunate among us with the gift of warmth this Christmas. Friends or family visiting? Bring them with you and create a new family tradition! Must be 18 or over. Click here to reserve your time slot. For more information contact David Safford (202-494-3041).
