Planned Giving

A number of parishioners have expressed an interest in establishing a vehicle for planned giving. In response, a framework has been developed for an endowment fund that will contribute to the ongoing legacy of the church. An overview will be presented by Jim Jones at the upcoming Sept. 7 parish meeting which will be held during the 10:00 service. While a special committee would be formed to oversee and manage this fund, certain policies and procedures would be be subject to oversight by the Vestry, and key elements of endowment fund policies could be changed only with the consent of the congregation.

The documents necessary to create the endowment fund will be up for a vote at the parish meeting. Additionally, the initial members of the

managing committee will be up for a vote. The formation documents are somewhat lengthy so a summary has been prepared. If you are interested in reviewing this information prior to the parish meeting, please contact Amiee Freeman (703-437-6530). Indicate whether you are interested in receiving the summary document (2 pages) AND/OR the actual documents (20 pages).

If the documents are not approved at the annual meeting, creation of the endowment fund must be delayed at least until the next parish meeting (January 2015). It is requested that any questions or issues that may impact an affirmative vote be raised prior to the parish meeting if possible.  Please contact St. Anne's Treasurer Lisa Van Hoecke (703-475-3569). Questions will be forwarded to the appropriate individual for response.

Children in Crisis
In response to the national crisis involving the thousands of immigrant children that have crossed into the US unaccompanied by parents or guardians, St. Anne's is holding a church meeting on Sunday, Aug. 24 following the 10:00 service to discuss the issue and a possible response to it. Bishop Susan Goff recently posted a reflection on the child immigrant crisis which can be read here

We had a great turn out for Saturday's Works Sunday (on a Saturday!). There were 21 pairs of hands from three congregations - St. Anne's, St. Thomas à Becket, and Herndon Friends - making sandwiches which were delivered to the Embry Rucker Shelter. There is another opportunity coming up on Oct. 25 to participate in this fun outreach activity. Stay tuned for more info and an online sign up!

Lunch for the Soul (St. Anne's Day)

Over the past few months, St. Anne's has continued to provide volunteers on a weekly basis to Trinity Presbyterians' exemplary feeding program that meets on Wednesday mornings to provide lunch to day laborers.

We would like to up the ante and put the challenge out there to provide 100% of the volunteers and food necessary for the program which will feed 50 people on Wednesday, Aug. 27. We will need:

  • Volunteers to shop on Monday or Tuesday;
  • Volunteers to help do some prep on Tuesday August 26th at 7:30 in our kitchen at St. Anne's; and
  • At least 5 people in the kitchen at Trinity Presbyterian on Wednesday morning to finish prep work, and serve food.

This is a great activity for families and no Spanish skills are required!!! Your volunteer-ship includes an amazing lunch on Wednesday, Spanish conversation practice, really fun music and great fellowship. Click here to book your spot or contact Katrina Alexander.

Memorial Garden Brick Order

Many of you have enjoyed the beauty of our Memorial Garden and the lovely recognition bricks on our patio. Many have also asked when there would offer an opportunity for additional bricks to be purchased. The time is now! The Vestry of St. Anne's is pleased to offer you the opportunity to purchase an engraved recognition brick(s). We are offering two sizes of bricks: 4"x 8" brick for $150 or 8"x 8" brick for $275. Funds raised from the bricks will be dedicated to finishing the back pathway to the garden and to completing the memorial plaque wall. Click here to see and download the order form. EACH BRICK ORDER WILL REQUIRE A SEPARATE ORDER FORM. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Allen (703-437-6530). The deadline for ordering bricks is Sept. 28. Thank you for your support!

Save the Date... Fall Gleaning Opportunities

Save the date for a day of fresh air, good works, time with family and friends, and APPLE PICKING! We will once again be helping The Society of St. Andrews in their mission to end our country's hunger insecurity. The Society of St. Andrews works with farmers and others to gather, collect,

and distribute produce that would otherwise be thrown away. We need your help to clear some local apple orchards in Winchester, VA! We arrive just before 9 a.m. on a Saturday and work for 2-3 hours. We then have the pleasure of enjoying a gorgeous produce farm that also has picnic tables, orchards for picking (or just walking), and the most fabulous play area for both big and little kids! Please click here to volunteer or contact Amber Gilson for more information. The days we will be picking apples are: Saturday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Oct. 11.
