KaBOOM! is building a playground - dedicated to Don Flynn - in Herndon. KaBOOM! is an organization dedicated to bringing balanced and active play into the daily lives of all children, particularly those growing up in poverty. Don's family chose this organization as a donations recipient following Don's death earlier this year. Don did a couple KaBOOM builds and always came home raving about how much fun they were. His family is now inviting the St. Anne's family to participate in this remarkable build experience by helping to build a playground at Hopkins House, a new non-profit pre-school just off Herndon Parkway (200 Fairbrook Dr.) We need volunteers to help put the entire thing together in one day - Wed., Aug 20 from 8:30 to 2:30. Just Neighbors provides immigration legal services to low-income immigrants and refugees of all faiths and nationalities in Northern Virginia. Starting in September we need volunteers to assist clients in filling out their immigration applications at the Herndon legal clinics one Saturday a month. NO legal experience is necessary as they train all the volunteers. In fact it is a good experience for anyone who doesn't have any legal experience to get a glimpse at the legal world! There is also a need for Spanish-speaking volunteers during office hours (Tues- Friday 9:00-5:00) at the Falls Church Office. For more information please contact Carol Van Puymbroeck.

Several families with newborns discharged from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the coming days will take their babies home in colorful knitted and crocheted blankets made by groups at St. Anne's, St. Timothy's and St. Thomas' churches. Fourteen new blankets were delivered to the NICU in late July. If you are interested in joining the St. Anne's knitters, we meet on the second Thursday at 7:30 pm at St. Anne's.  For more information contact Carol Hurlburt (703-264-9054).

Many of you have enjoyed the beauty of our Memorial Garden and the lovely recognition bricks on our patio. Many have also asked when there would offer an opportunity for additional bricks to be purchased. The time is now! The Vestry of St. Anne's is pleased to offer you the opportunity to purchase an engraved recognition brick(s). We are offering two sizes of bricks: 4"x 8" brick for $150 or 8"x 8" brick for $275. Funds raised from the bricks will be dedicated to finishing the back pathway to the garden and to completing the memorial plaque wall. Click here to see and download the order form. Our next distribution day is Thursday, Aug. 21. We're particularly looking for 20 jars of jelly, 15 peanut butter and 30 bags of dried beans: that's this month's challenge! St. Anne's is helping Cornerstones reach its goal of collecting 3,200 backpacks for the 2014 Back-to-School backpack drive. In addition to backpacks, Cornerstones is also requesting donations of new underwear for elementary-age children and Payless gift cards. You can help by donating:

• New, durable backpacks (no wheels or corporate logos, please)
• Packs of underwear for elementary-age children
• Gift Cards to Payless Shoes

Save the date for a day of fresh air, good works, time with family and friends, and APPLE PICKING! We will once again be helping The Society of St. Andrews in their mission to end our country's hunger insecurity. The Society of St. Andrews works with farmers and others to gather, collect,

and distribute produce that would otherwise be thrown away. We need your help to clear some local apple orchards in Winchester, VA! We arrive just before 9 a.m. on a Saturday and work for 2-3 hours. We then have the pleasure of enjoying a gorgeous produce farm that also has picnic tables, orchards for picking (or just walking), and the most fabulous play area for both big and little kids!
