Grill Night!
Join us tonight for Grill Night which is held every Wednesday night through the summer at 6:30 p.m. Bring something for the grill for you and/or your family and something to share and enjoy the fellowship. It's a wonderful way to relax and chat after a long day. We are in need of a Grill Master to help with set up and minding the grill. This will be a rotating position. You can sign up to be Grill Master for the week on the sign up sheet in the Narthex or contact Susan.

They will be traveling to Philadelphia, the Dominican Republic, Dungannon in Appalachia, and in the Reston/Herndon area with Mission Possible. In your spare moments, please hold these people in your thoughts and prayers that they may arrive safely, complete their tasks with happy and joyous hearts, and return back to us fulfilled with new experiences.

Lunchtime Smiles

Smiles and high energy from about 30 children greeted St. Anne's volunteers as the summer feeding program at the Cedar Ridge Community Center kicked off this week.  Over lunch, volunteers joined the children and Cornerstones staff in discussions of World Cup, why we celebrate the Fourth of July, how to say your name in other languages. and whether ranch dressing is good on a fish sandwich.

The summer feeding program is a program for children who are entitled to free or reduced price lunch during the school year and continues through August 28.   The St. Anne's team could use more volunteers, so if you can spare a couple of hours a week to join us, contact Carol Hurlburt (703-264-9054).

Helping the Disabled Community Help Others

St. Anne's and SPARC, an organization that helps adults with disabilities, work together to help our neighbors. SPARC's help allows us to offer fresh produce during our monthly food pantry distribution. We receive free fresh produce from the Capital Area Food Bank in 50-pound bags. Our SPARC friends divide the food into individual sizes. At this month's food pantry distribution, which was on June 19, more than 100 people received a bag of groceries plus a supplemental bag of fresh vegetables, which this month included potatoes, onions, carrots, corn, and cucumbers. This variety of produce changes from month to month.

We need a driver to bring the fresh produce from St. Anne's to SPARC on two Wednesdays: July 16 and August 20. Pick either or both days!  The driver/team will pick up the produce in the morning at St. Anne's, bring it to McLean by 10 a.m., and return to McLean to bring the food back to our church at 1:30 pm. It's your option whether you stay at SPARC while the food is portioned, a process which takes about an hour. The driver and/or team should be able to lift 50 pounds.  A dolly (hand truck) is available.

Please email
George Bounacos or call George or his wife, Joan, at 703-802-2072.

Food Pantry Update

Last week, we gave out 100 bags of groceries during our regular food pantry distribution day and several others have gone out since. There was enough for all, but now our shelves are looking bare. We especially need jelly and dried beans and wipes. Thank you so much for your continued support and generosity.

Hot Weather Needs at Embry Rucker Shelter

During these hot weather months, the Embry Rucker Shelter has special needs. If you are interested and able to drop these off at the Shelter, they would be much appreciated.

  • individual bottled water--people come in all day picking up bottles,
  • rain ponchos,
  • flip flops -- adult and children sizes,
  • sunscreen, and
  • beach towels-the Shelter gets pool passes for the kids staying there.

Summer Schedule for Wednesday Noon Services

In the summer our schedule for the Wednesday Noon Eucharist service changes a bit. In July the Wednesday Noon Eucharist service will be held July 2, 9, and 30. On July 16 there will be Noonday Prayer, but no Eucharist. There will be no Noon Service on July 23. The Noon Service will not be held during August. The service will resume on Sept. 3.

Sandwiches for the Shelter

Every day the Embry Rucker Community Shelter provides lunch packages for their youth and adult guests.  At St. Anne's we gather together every 4-6 weeks for about 2 hours on a Saturday morning to make 120 lunches including sandwiches and other goodies.  This mission is good for all ages: last month one of our 4 year olds was putting condiment packages in bags, its a great way to let children give back to their community.  When you signup there'll also be food items that you can volunteer to bring.  After the lunches are assembled in the Narthex at St. Anne's 1 or 2 cars will deliver them to the shelter where staff distributes them.  We'll be doing Sandwiches for the Shelter on July 5, a wonderful opportunity to serve during Independence Day weekend.  Click here to signup.  If you have any questions contact Emily McPhie.

Children's Chapel -- Summer 2014

Children's Chapel will be offered this summer during the 10:00 a.m. Sunday services in July and August. Children ages preschool through 5th grade are invited to participate. Volunteers are needed to lead Children's Chapel; no prior experience necessary! Two volunteers are needed each Sunday to teach the lesson and guide children in the craft. The lesson, craft idea and materials, and snack are provided each week. If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex or contact Rev. Laura.
