Grill Night!
Join us tonight for Grill Night which is held every Wednesday night through the summer at 6:30 p.m. Bring something for the grill for you and/or your family and something to share and enjoy the fellowship. It's a wonderful way to relax and chat after a long day. We are in need of a Grill Master to help with set up and minding the grill. This will be a rotating position. You can sign up to be Grill Master for the week on the sign up sheet in the Narthex or contact Susan.

They will be traveling to Philadelphia, the Dominican Republic, Dungannon in Appalachia, and in the Reston/Herndon area with Mission Possible. In your spare moments, please hold these people in your thoughts and prayers that they may arrive safely, complete their tasks with happy and joyous hearts, and return back to us fulfilled with new experiences.

St. Anne's Spring Camping Trip

Thirty members of St. Anne's enjoyed a wonderful weekend camping in a quiet spot on the banks of the Shenandoah River's North Fork. The rain was a pleasant lullaby for Friday night's sleep, and it cleared out in time for us to enjoy swimming, canoeing, hiking, and exploring Harper's Ferry on Saturday. Over shared meals, around warm campfires (with lots of s'mores!), and through partaking in lots of ways to experience and enjoy the great outdoors we relished the opportunities for fellowship and deeper connections with God and one another. After a delicious pancake breakfast on Sunday, we concluded our weekend with worship and Eucharist riverside. We hope you'll join us in the fall! Click here to check out our video.

Our Nightly Bread

Our Nightly Bread is our food ministry that every Tuesday evening picks up unsold baked goods from Panera; these items, which a few hours earlier would have been sold, at the end of the day are typically thrown out. Below is an update from Laurie Corkey who is coordinating our efforts.

The team is doing a great job!

We have been delivering for 20 weeks now! With an average 4 ½ bins per run, that equals 85+ bins of baked goods - with a whopping estimated value of $8,500 (!!) worth of quality baked goods saved from the garbage and fed to hungry people in Reston.

We are currently feeding:
1)  the elderly at Lake Anne Fellowship House;
2)  those who receive a free bag of groceries at our Monthly Food Pantry; and
3)  the homeless, through our Facets program, which delivers hot meals to the homeless temporarily housed in motels.

Summer Schedule for Wednesday Noon Services

In the summer our schedule for the Wednesday Noon Eucharist service changes a bit. In July the Wednesday Noon Eucharist service will be held July 2, 9, and 30. On July 16 there will be Noonday Prayer, but no Eucharist. There will be no Noon Service on July 23. The Noon Service will not be held during August. The service will resume on Sept. 3.

Sandwiches for the Shelter

Every day the Embry Rucker Community Shelter provides lunch packages for their youth and adult guests.  At St. Anne's we gather together every 4-6 weeks for about 2 hours on a Saturday morning to make 120 lunches including sandwiches and other goodies.  This mission is good for all ages: last month one of our 4 year olds was putting condiment packages in bags, its a great way to let children give back to their community.  When you signup there'll also be food items that you can volunteer to bring.  After the lunches are assembled in the Narthex at St. Anne's 1 or 2 cars will deliver them to the shelter where staff distributes them.  We'll be doing Sandwiches for the Shelter on July 5, a wonderful opportunity to serve during Independence Day weekend.  Click here to signup.  If you have any questions contact Emily McPhie.

Can You Spare a Few Hours to Feed Hungry Kids?
So when summer arrives what happens to children who got free lunches during the school year? St. Anne's partners with Cornerstones and Fairfax County on a Summer Feeding Program to serve summer lunch at the Cedar Ridge Community Center to children who are entitled to free or reduced price lunches during the school year. The program operates Monday through Friday beginning June 30 and running through August. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to set up, serve lunch and clean up at the Cedar Ridge Community Center at 1601 Becontree Road near the Forest Edge School. While a once a week commitment is optimal you can sign up for as many or as few days as you'd like. If you are interested, contact Carol Hurlburt (703-264-9054).
