Food Pantry

Our next distribution is on Thursday, June 19. The challenge this month is "19." We particularly need 19 cereal, peanut butter, jelly, and tuna.

So you've been wondering: what is the Food Pantry, how do we get and distribute the food, who are our customers, why is this an important mission for St. Anne's and "how can I help?"  There will be a meeting on Sunday, June 22 in Room 1 at 11:45 a.m. after the 10:00 a.m. service. We'd love to talk to you about the food pantry, share our experiences, listen to your ideas and give you a chance to get informed and involved. Please attend if you are on our food pantry team, interested in joining or have questions about the program.

Sandwiches for the Shelter

Every day the Embry Rucker Community Shelter provides lunch packages for their youth and adult guests. At St. Anne's we gather together every 4-6 weeks for about 2 hours on a Saturday morning to make 120 lunches including sandwiches and other goodies.  This mission is great for all ages: last month one of our 4-year-olds was putting condiment packages in bags; it's a great way to let children give back to their community. When you signup there'll also be food items that you can volunteer to bring. After the lunches are assembled in the Narthex at St. Anne's 1 or 2 cars will deliver them to the shelter where staff distributes them. This summer we'll be doing Sandwiches for the Shelter on July 5 (what a wonderful opportunity to serve during Independence Day weekend) and August 16 at 10:30 a.m. We'll start sign-up next week, in the interim if you have any questions contact Emily McPhie.

Grill Night!
Grill Night returns June 18 at 6:30 p.m. Bring something for the grill for you and/or your family and something to share; enjoy fellowship and the setting sun. It's a wonderful way to relax and chat after a long day. We are in need of a Grill Master to help with set up and minding the grill. This would be a great job for 2 or 3 people to rotate or to share. If you are interested, please contact Susan.

Mission Possible: July 14-18

There is still time to sign up for Mission Possible. What is Mission Possible? Mission Possible is a week-long local mission camp for rising 6th-8th graders. Each day the group will travel beyond the walls of our own congregation to share their gifts for ministry in service to our area neighbors. A sign-up sheet for participants and parent/adult volunteers is available in the Narthex. Please register no later than Sunday, June 15.

Parent/adult volunteers are needed for planning purposes, a variety of daily tasks during the week of camp, and to help chaperone the campers on their daily missions. There is no need to prepare any lessons or do any formal teaching; we just need your presence! You do NOT need to have children in this age group to volunteer. For more information, please contact Rev. Laura.

Can You Spare a Few Hours to Feed Hungry Kids?
So when summer arrives what happens to children who got free lunches during the school year? St. Anne's partners with Cornerstones and Fairfax County on a Summer Feeding Program to serve summer lunch at the Cedar Ridge Community Center  to children who are entitled to free or reduced price lunches during the school year. The program operates Monday through Friday beginning June 30 and running through August. Volunteers are needed between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to set up, serve lunch and clean up at the Cedar Ridge Community Center at 1601 Becontree Road near the Forest Edge School. While a once a week commitment is optimal you can sign up for as many or as few days as you'd like. If you are interested, contact Carol Hurlburt (703-264-9054).
