Message from the Coordinator

Have you discovered Peche Island yet? The DRCC and partners are hosting Peche Island Day on Saturday, September 28th. Peche Island Day is a free, annual event that draws hundred of people to this beautiful, city-owned park on the Detroit River. Our partners provide free transportation to and from the island. Visitors can join a guided tour and learn about the island's unique ecology and rich history or they can walk the marked trails on their own and enjoy a picnic lunch with family and friends. The view of the Detroit River from Peche Island is absolutely gorgeous; it's definitely an opportunity you don't want to miss!

FESTIVAL OF HAWKS

September 14/15 and 21/22: 9 am to 3 pm
Holiday Beach Conservation Area, Amherstburg

 

Holiday Beach will again be hosting its' popular Festival of Hawks! Event activities include: live raptor shows, banding demonstrations, children's nature crafts, hikes, bird identification on the hawk tower, adopt-a-hawk programs and other activities. Visitors can stop and shop at the Pelee Wings Nature Store, the Native Plants and Trees and the Jerry Peltier Wildlife Photography booths. Also enjoy guided hikes and talks throughout the Festival. DISCOVER PECHE ISLAND TOUR

Lakeview Park Marina, 9200 Riverside Drive East, Windsor

Want to visit this City-owned island park on the Detroit River but don't own a boat? This is your opportunity to explore and learn about this gem on the River! The DRCC's partnership organizations offer free boat rides across the Detroit River to spend a day exploring the island. You can join a guided tour or explore the trails on your own. Boats to the island begin boarding at 10 am until 12:30 pm. Return trips only from 1 pm to 3 pm. Click here for the poster

Due to current water levels, participants must be able to climb up a 4-step vertical ladder. Event may be cancelled due to inclement weather conditions.

Volunteers needed! Contact Karen Cedar if you would like to volunteer your time to help out during the event.
CANADA SOUTH COAST BIKE TOUR

Saturday, September 28: 9 am - 2 pm

Various Starting Points around Windsor-Essex


Windsor-Essex Cycles!! New routes for 2013!  Participate in a 15km family ride, a 32 km intermediate ride or a 70 km advanced ride on the Chrysler Canada Greenway. For road riders, tour the region and stop at some of our Conservation Areas on the 58 intermediate or 110 km advance road route.
  
Lunch is included with all registration fees at the Kingsville Train Station/Mettawas Restaurant. All funds raised will be used to construct the Essex-Amherstburg Greenway trail! Register online at www.onlineregistrations.ca/cscbiketour.
