Mead Reads
Lion and Leopard, by Nathaniel Popkin

Set in the Philadelphia art world of postcolonial America,
Lion and Leopard tells the story of German-born American artist John Lewis Krimmel and painter Charles Willson Peale, the patriarch of a formidable family of creative genius and power. Come for informal discussion and a look at Peale paintings on view at the Mead. Copies are available for purchase at Amherst Books in downtown Amherst.

WORLD CUPS 

A Cross-Cultural Look at Drinking Vessels 

 
Featuring a range of art from Africa, the Americas, east Asia, and Europe,  this installation sets drinking vessels in cross-cultural and cross-temporal conversation, drawing from the Mead's collection of antiquities and decorative arts, and spanning over two millennia. On view through April 5, 2015.
