At the Turning Points homeless center in Bradenton, negative stereotypes about homelessness were threatening the nonprofit's image. Former Florida Senate President John McKay approached the USF Information Systems Decision Sciences Department to do research on the impact the center had on the community. USF Muma College of Business ISDS Professor Alan Hevner has been named a 2016 Fellow of the Association of Information Systems, an honor given to leaders in the information systems research field. The AIS Fellow Award is given to individuals who have "made significant global contributions to the discipline as well as outstanding local contributions in the context of their country and region." The first Muma Trading Challenge allowed students to trade stocks with no risk of losing money - but one student ended up $1,000 richer. Finance graduate student Jake Smith took first place in the simulation against 440 other students in the competition, which came with the $1,000 scholarship. Read more.
