Papa John and others to speak at USF Sport & Entertainment Lecture Series in January
Next week, the USF Sport & Entertainment Lecture Series presented by Fox Sports Florida and the Tampa Bay Lightning will feature top executives in the sport and entertainment industries - the former head of the WNBA, CEO of the Philadelphia 76ers, and the pizza mogul best known as Papa John. ISDS graduate student project benefits Bradenton homeless center
At the Turning Points homeless center in Bradenton, negative stereotypes about homelessness were threatening the nonprofit's image. Former Florida Senate President John McKay approached the USF Information Systems Decision Sciences Department to do research on the impact the center had on the community. The project that developed could change the conversation not only for Turning Points in Bradenton, but for all types of nonprofits nationwide. Read more.

The University of South Florida is one of the most successful schools in the country at teaching students how to start businesses from the ground up, according to rankings released by Entrepreneur magazine and the Princeton Review. Read more.
ISDS professor recognized with AIS Fellow Award
USF Muma College of Business ISDS Professor Alan Hevner has been named a 2016 Fellow of the Association of Information Systems, an honor given to leaders in the information systems research field. The AIS Fellow Award is given to individuals who have "made significant global contributions to the discipline as well as outstanding local contributions in the context of their country and region." Muma Trading Challenge lets students experience highs and lows of market
The first Muma Trading Challenge allowed students to trade stocks with no risk of losing money - but one student ended up $1,000 richer. Finance graduate student Jake Smith took first place in the simulation against 440 other students in the competition, which came with the $1,000 scholarship. Read more.

  • Academic Advisor Jack Lynch received USF's Outstanding Undergraduate Advising Award.
  • Associate Dean Jacqueline Reck was appointed to a financial reporting model task force of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. 
  • Finance Professor Jianping Qi had a paper accepted by the Review of Finance: "Outsourcing and Financing Decisions in Industry Equilibrium."
Alumni Notes
  • Panzina Hill ('01, Management) has been named vice president of human resources at BrightStar Credit Union. She was previously vice president of human resources for Nationwide Laboratory Services in Fort Lauderdale. 
  • Brian Lipinoga ('11, MBA) has joined livingHR as practice director. He has earned HRCI, PHR, and SHRM-CP certifications in addition to his MBA from USF. Lipinoga previously served as strategic human relations business partner at Paychex, Inc.
