New USF Certificate in Compliance, Risk, and Anti-Money Laundering prepares students to protect businesses

Whether trying to assess risk, preventing criminals from laundering money, or simply making sure that a business complies with the many rules and regulations applied to today's corporations, job-seekers who have the analytical and critical-thinking skills they can apply to these problems are in high-demand. That's why USF is announcing a new certificate program in compliance, risk, and anti-money laundering.  First IdeAlytics Fest emphasizes intersection of creativity, analytics

The Center for Analytics and Creativity at the Muma College of Business hosted the first IdeAlytics Feston Thursday, April 2. The event, which was well-attended by students, faculty, and members of the business community, celebrated all things creative and analytical by building bridges between data-driven insight and artful innovation. Read more.

 

 

 Healthcare Innovation Competition offers students statewide $10,000 prize

 

A USF undergraduate mathematics major won $10,000 Thursday for having an innovative healthcare idea: the ability to manage disease pathology using cloud-based computer analysis. Fifteen students from four universities -- USF, the University of Florida, Florida International University, and Rollins College -- pitched their ideas for innovations in healthcare at the University of South Florida at USF Connect. Campus-based, student-managed Credit Union to allow USF business students executive internship opportunities


 

Business students will manage a student-run financial services center and earn college credit as part of a partnership between the University of South Florida Muma College of Business and the USF Federal Credit Union. The new student-managed Marshall Student Center Branch will be one of the first credit unions on a university campus to offer students a paid internship opportunity while they earn course credit. Recent entrepreneurship grad opens tea shop near USF campus


 

Yi-Hsiang Liao, who graduated from USF's MS in Entrepreneurship program in 2014, recently opened a tea lounge in Temple Terrace. Liao, who is originally from Taiwan, wanted to bring Taiwanese tea culture to Tampa Bay. Click here to watch a video about his company by INTO USF.

Four business students among Golden Bull recipients

Four of the the 18 students who will receive USF's Golden Bull Award later this month are business majors! Congratulations to Huzzatun Iqra, Marcos Gonzalez, Natalie Pearson, and Brandi Arnold! The Golden Bull is one of USF's highest honors, presented to students who encompass the spirit of USF and have demonstrated its values. Recipients must exemplify exceptional leadership and service to the university and the community. 

 

Muma College of Business ranked among Best for Vets for second year

For military veterans seeking a business education, the University of South Florida Muma College of Business is among the top 30 programs for veterans in the nation for the second year running. Read more.

 

Faculty and Staff Notes 
  • Donna Bell joined the ISDS Department as a staff assistant.
  • Melody Hardy joined the Dean's Office as a student and outreach program coordinator. 
  • ISDS Professor Marvin Karlins' book, The Like Switch, was published in October by Simon & Schuster. In addition, 12 foreign publishers have contracted to do foreign language editions of the book, which details techniques that individuals can use to can influence, attract and win people over. Karlins wrote the book with Jack Schafer, a former FBI agent and professor at Western Illinois University. Additionally, an article Karlins wrote, "The Karlins Four Factor Theory of Business Success" was published in the February 2015 issue of the Journal of International Management Studies.
