Landrum Strong
I want to just express my gratitude and excitement to each and every Landrum family! Through minimal glitches, some changes and a few adjustments, school has been able to start productively these last few weeks. My staff and I have worked hard to ensure that your students' experience is one that is academically challenging yet balanced with opportunities for enrichment and even some fun. I remain convinced that we are Landrum Strong. Your continued support and flexibility is most appreciated.

Interested in competing in the Landrum Science Fair? Checkpoint Meetings to register, discuss project requirements, and gain project approval begin Tuesday, Sept. 2nd . Meetings held from 2:00-3:00 in Mr. Anzelmo's room (355). Visit the LMS website and click on the Science Fair link for more information.

GIFTED SCREENING

Requests to have your son/daughter screened for 2015-2016 Gifted Status need to be submitted to the Guidance Department by October 31st. Please refer to the timeline on the school's website for further information.

Admission--$5.00 and all students are asked to bring a can of food or box of food for the St. Francis House in St. Augustine - serving the homeless of St. Johns County
(Students will receive a PBS card for their generous donation.)
Dress Code--Students must follow the school dress code but in recognition of the theme - students are encouraged to wear jerseys and/or school |

National Junior Honor Society
The first meeting will be in Mr. Baggett's room (room 525) on Sept. 9 for the purpose of electing officers for the 2014-2015 school year. There are four offices: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Running Club Students interested in joining the Running Club must have a completed Student/Parent Athlete Permission Slip turned in to Coach Barnard by September 9, 2014 (see LMS homepage). Training will be held on Thursdays, beginning September 11, from 2 -3. Race Dates/Times/Location Wed. Sept. 24 5 pm St. Augustine Amphitheatre Wed. Oct. 15 5 pm Gamble Rogers PE/Soccer Fields More dates will be posted as they become official. Any questions can be directed to Coach Barnard via email rowena.barnard@stjohns.k12.fl.us Chorus Club Auditions Mrs. Carpenter will be sponsoring the LMS Chorus Club this year. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the 7 East hallway starting Tuesday, September 2nd. Posted next to the sign-up sheet will be an audition schedule. New students to chorus also need to sign up for an audition slot. Auditions will begin next Friday and continue through the following Thursday. Students will have a heavy hand in choosing repertoire, and Mrs. Carpenter is excited to sing with Landrum once again! |
LANDRUM SPORTS UPDATE

Football
The Landrum football team had a great start to the season with a win over Pacetti Bay last night by a score of 24 to13.
It was an exciting game led by Jack Murrah at quarterback who ran for one touchdown and threw for two more. Reece Rucci and Mark Calvin were the recievers for those passes.
Devin Hoffman and Nick Bunkowski each had interceptions in the game that led to scores along with aggressive defenseive plays by Daniel Timberlake, Connor McDonough and Cole Mccormick.
The next game is Thursday against Gamble Rogers being played at Pedro Menendez High school.
Volleyball
Tryouts September 2 after school until 4:15
Must have signed parent permission form turned in
Landrum Boys and Girls Volleyball tryouts are beginning Tuesday September 2nd from 2:15-4:15. All students trying out must have a signed permission slip to tryout. Coach Jansen in Room 440, Coach Pastori in the gym and the front office have copies of the permission slips. The tryouts will continue for students on Wednesday from 1:15-3:15. Students must be available for practices Monday-Thursday the week of September 8th and 15th. Games begin the week of September 22nd and continue until November 17th. Game days are Mondays and Wednesdays and practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays during the season. We must have 100% of your time, so if another sport or activity conflicts with this schedule, you may not tryout. We apologize for this, but feel this gives more athletes a chance to participate in Landrum athletics. Contact Lynne Jansen at lynne.jansen@stjohns.k12.fl.us with any questions or concerns. Highlights include:
- Surf contest* - Shane Murray will be our Contest Director and finalist prizes will be provided by Sunrise and Aqua East surf shops
- Food - Brucci's, Kona Ice, Tropical Smoothie and Woody's BBQ
- Music - Live DJ Reece Dantin of Reece's Pieces
- Sandcastle building contest - bring your tools and your creativity
- Skimboarding exhibition - bring your skimboard and show off your skills
- Paddleboard relay* for kids and adults - bring your own board or rent one on sight from North Guana Outpost
- 50/50 drawing - 1 for $5 or 3 for $10
- Beach volleyball
- Beach whiffleball

- Our own version of the Ice Bucket Challenge!

Happy Labor Day Weekend!
After enjoying a nice long weekend be sure to join us for our monthly PTO meeting on Tuesday September 2nd at 8:30 in the LMS Media Center.
Below are some dates and information to keep in mind:
Volunteer Opportunities: The Beach Bash committee is still looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to head up some fun subcommittees:
- Skimboarding - needs confirmed lead. This will be an exhibition for any students who want show off their moves in a laid back show of skill. Lots of room to make this fun as it is open to all attendees with a wristband.
- Surf clinics - needs lead. Surf into Summer is providing instructors to offer surf clinics at various intervals throughout the event to anyone interested. They will provide the surfboards for those who don't have their own. This is open to all attendees with a wristband.
- Volunteer chair - needs lead. Making sure we have volunteers at all of our event areas. Will use sign up genius to recruit, gather and organize these volunteers. Reach out to PVHS students, Nease ROTC and students, scouts, etc., for set up and take down.

DISABILITY HISTORY AND AWARENESS WEEKS
|
The first two weeks of October are Disability History and Awareness Weeks! Section 1003.4205, Florida Statutes, entitled Disability History and Awareness Instruction, was signed into law in 2008. It requires school districts to designate the first two weeks of October as Disability History and Awareness Weeks and also promotes providing instruction for students in all public schools to expand student knowledge, understanding, and awareness of individuals with disabilities, disability history, and the disability rights movement.
