Principal's Message
Dear Viking Families,

The character word of the month is "Generosity".  Generosity is giving and sharing. It is giving freely because you want to, not with the idea of receiving a reward or a gift in return.

Generosity character traits include:
* Thoughtful about the needs of others
*Notice when someone needs help
*Giving freely without hope of reward
*Giving fully without holding back
* Willing to make sacrifices for others
* Sharing treasured belongings

Vanderlyn will partner with Camp Jenny by holding a generosity campaign to help low-income students receive backpacks for summer camp.   Camp Jenny is a camp that partners with an impoverished school of students who can't afford to go to sleep-away camp. Camp Jenny allows them to come to camp during Memorial Day Weekend. The students earn this privilege by having good behavior and grades.

Vanderlyn will collect backpacks at school for the campers to put their belongings in. This will be a huge help since many of the students arrive to camp with their personal belongings in a plastic/paper bags. The backpacks can be new or gently used. To reach our goal of 300 backpacks, we need the support of our school community to make a difference in the lives of these students. Please consider giving to this worthy cause. Drop boxes have been placed in the front of the school to collect the backpacks.  We thank you in advance for your generosity.

Think of giving not as a duty, but as a privilege.

Your Proud Principal,
Mrs. Crenshaw
