Principal's Message
Dear Vikings,

The 6th Annual VanderDash 5K and Fun Run was huge sensation! The turnout was amazing and unlike last year, the weather was perfect! We had over 1,000+ participants this year. There was a sincere spirit of school and community as teachers, students, parents and neighbors came together to fellowship, socialize and support what I am convinced is the best school in the world. Several local business leaders including Mayor Mike Davis were in attendance. Participants of all ages enjoyed the finish line celebration with music, great food and giveaways from our local sponsors!

Based on the adage, "The school cannot live apart from the community", Vanderlyn is fortunate to be a part of a community that invests in gifting children with endless possibilities of academic endeavor. As your leader, I am humbled by the unwavering support of the teachers, parents and community as we strive to maintain the stellar reputation of this great institution of teaching and learning. It is our goal through VanderDash and PTA Annual Fund to raise funds that go directly to improvements in academics, provide professional learning opportunities for teachers, and ultimately, increase student achievement.

Finally, thanks to our VanderDash Co-Chairs, Leslie Frohman and Laura Dowling, as well as the many volunteers that contributed to this special event! All of the countless hours, meticulous attention to detail, and the collaborative efforts that have gone into making this day a success are appreciated. You are all vital members of our school community, and we are very fortunate to have you working with us. Thank you for the gift of time and care, they are valuable commodities to all the teachers, staff, and students at Vanderlyn. When we work together in a positive manner, all of our children benefit.

With School Pride,
Mrs. Crenshaw
Co-Presidents' Message
Thanks to everyone for coming out for the fantastic race yesterday!  This is the sixth VanderDash race that we have hosted, and it  engages our entire community, teachers, students and neighbors.

You might be surprised to know the amount of effort that goes into planning this event that lasts only two hours!  Planning began last summer, continued through the fall, and was heavy in the winter. Leslie Frohman and Laura Dowling co-chaired this committee, and they were strongly supported by volunteers Camilyn Germann, Nate Nicholson, Jill Hodges, and Michelle Johnson.   Michelle Mitelman, Katy Moomaw and Eileen Roehl can't be ignored because they gave so much effort as well!  We have to gratefully acknowledge Gaia Shamis, Jennifer Nail and Jodi Rosenberg for the satellite support they provided. Many others helped along the way, and we are appreciative to all the people who participated in making this event a success! Thank you!

Lastly, I have to thank Mother Nature for being more agreeable this year. I'm so happy she played nice yesterday!

Have a great week!
Julia LeDoyen and Christine Kelemen

We'll work on creating raised flower beds, planting trees/shrubs/flowers, laying pine straw, etc. The more volunteers we have, the more work we can do!  Let's get Vanderlyn looking beautiful and ready for the spring.

Please click here to sign up to help!

As always, thanks for your commitment to Vanderlyn!

Thank you to Northside Tree for our mulch deliveries! Call Northside Tree for tree removal and trimming.

Lunch Bunch Needs Volunteers

If you are looking for a great way to volunteer in the school and really get to know the kids in their element (eating!), then Lunch Bunch is for you!

We are in great need of volunteers to work 45 minute shifts to help the kids during lunch. This gives our wonderful teachers their much-needed break time during lunch and is part of the reason why Vanderlyn is a great school for teachers...parent commitment!

Volunteers can sign up at their convenience for whatever fits best with their schedule. Volunteer weekly, monthly, or even be on our list as a substitute only! If you are interested, please contact Susan Bolte or sign up for your preferred shifts now on SignUp Genius.

Thanks for helping Vanderlyn and the kids in this important area of service!

Lunch Bunch Co-Chairs,

Susan Bolte and Michelle Moore
