Co-Presidents' Message
Dear Vanderlyn Runners, enthusiastic and otherwise:

As you may expect, the VanderDash race requires an impressive amount of planning and coordination. I have really enjoyed the folks that volunteer on this committee. I'm struck by how diverse these volunteers are. We have moms and dads, folks that work full- and part-time, and parents with pre-schoolers still at home. So when you hear us describe VanderDash as a "community building event", you can understand what we mean! VanderDash is inclusive and collaborative from the outset.

I'm also struck by the support we get from our sponsors. Please take a moment to really appreciate the businesses that choose to sponsor our race this year. These businesses said "Yes, we support Vanderlyn!" You'll find our sponsors on the race shirt as well as on our website.

We still need helpers on race day. Click here to sign up for a volunteer slot. If it helps you to sign up, just know that Waffle House will have coffee at the school bright and early!

Our second PTA General Membership meeting of the year is scheduled for this Thursday, March 20 at 6 p.m. The Nominating Committee that slates officers for next year will be chosen at this time. If you would like to serve on the Nominating Committee, please contact us to express your interest.

Have a great week!

Calendar Revisions

Due to the revised DeKalb County School Distric Calendar 2013-14 School Year calendar, modifications to the Vanderlyn calendar have been made. You can access the corrected version of the Vanderlyn calendar on the PTA website www.vanderpta.com/calendar.

School Council Meeting

You are invited to attend the next Vanderlyn School Council meeting.  The meeting will take place Monday, March 17 at 8 a.m. in the media center.

Gifted Testing Update
Parents of Step II Students in Grades 1, 3 & 5 Only,

Please be aware that due to some major system errors regarding the Gifted Testing/Identification Process, schools have been given a directive from the DeKalb Gifted Department to hold off on sending eligibility status reports home with students until these issues can be resolved. The
District anticipates that this problem will be resolved soon, which at that point Vanderlyn will communicate to parents the results of their child's eligibility. Refer any inquiries regarding the Gifted Testing and Identification Process to the Gifted Team, Brooke Card, Melinda Carroll or Jason Sewell. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we look forward to serving our current and newly identified gifted students very soon.

The Grounds Committee Needs You!

Join the Vanderlyn Grounds Committee on Saturday, March 29 for a "Spring Beautification Day!" Work will begin promptly at 8 a.m. and end around noon.

We'll work on creating raised flower beds, planting trees/shrubs/flowers, laying pine straw, etc. The more volunteers we have, the more work we can do!  Let's get Vanderlyn looking beautiful and ready for the spring.

Please click here to sign up to help!

As always, thanks for your commitment to Vanderlyn!

Thank you to Northside Tree for our mulch deliveries! Call Northside Tree for tree removal and trimming.

This survey will close on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
Lunch Bunch Needs Volunteers

If you are looking for a great way to volunteer in the school and really get to know the kids in their element (eating!), then Lunch Bunch is for you!

We are in great need of volunteers to work 45 minute shifts to help the kids during lunch. This gives our wonderful teachers their much-needed break time during lunch and is part of the reason why Vanderlyn is a great school for teachers...parent commitment!

Volunteers can sign up at their convenience for whatever fits best with their schedule. Volunteer weekly, monthly, or even be on our list as a substitute only! If you are interested, please contact Susan Bolte or sign up for your preferred shifts now on SignUp Genius.

Thanks for helping Vanderlyn and the kids in this important area of service!

Lunch Bunch Co-Chairs,

Susan Bolte and Michelle Moore
