Co-Presidents' Message

A lot of good things have been happening at Vanderlyn this week. Mrs. Crenshaw and staff hosted STEM experts that reviewed our processes and facilities in order to offer suggestions for improvement as we continue to seek STEM certification. Outside the building, the Grounds committee addressed neglected areas of our grounds. You'll notice pruned trees, fresh mulch, transplanted liriope and defined beds where the grounds were previously overgrown. I am grateful for our tireless Grounds committee chairs Sarah Parrish and Dawn Weterrings!

Looking ahead, we have a couple of big events. VanderDash is March 22, and you will enjoy being a part of this event. It's a fun way to start the weekend, and it benefits the Vanderlyn students entirely. Equally important, but not as fun, is the next PTA General Membership meeting, scheduled for March 20 at 6 p.m. The formation of the Nominating Committee will be the main item on the agenda, so please contact us if you have an interest in serving on this committee.

Spring is about to sneak up on us, and that means PTA kicks it into high gear! The last months of the school year are always busy, so get ready!

Have a great week!

Staff Update
Please welcome our new nurse, Suzanne Clay to Vanderlyn! Mrs. Clay is a registered nurse at Northside Hospital with 30 years of experience in the maternal/ child-care areas of labor and delivery, nursery, post/antepartum, pediatrics, neonatal intensive care along with school nursing (formerly at Idlewood Elementary School). She has a wealth of experience that is sure to be an asset to the Vanderlyn school community. Indeed our students will be in great and capable hands!

Please stop by and say hello and give her a warm Vanderlyn welcome. Her first day will be Monday, Mach 10.

Lunch Bunch Needs Volunteers

If you are looking for a great way to volunteer in the school and really get to know the kids in their element (eating!), then Lunch Bunch is for you!

We are in great need of volunteers to work 45 minute shifts to help the kids during lunch. This gives our wonderful teachers their much-needed break time during lunch and is part of the reason why Vanderlyn is a great school for teachers...parent commitment!

Volunteers can sign up at their convenience for whatever fits best with their schedule. Volunteer weekly, monthly, or even be on our list as a substitute only! If you are interested, please contact Susan Bolte or sign up for your preferred shifts now on SignUp Genius.

Thanks for helping Vanderlyn and the kids in this important area of service!

Lunch Bunch Co-Chairs,

Susan Bolte and Michelle Moore
