Principal's Message
Dear Parents,

Communications are an integral part of a great organization. Therefore, Vanderlyn is pleased to announce the launch of our "web-hosted" calling post system, School Connects. We will now have the ability to send messages to our parents whenever we want, send as many messages as needed and from any location.  This feature will allow us to text you with important information such as a last minute school closings (such as last week's) and other relevant emergency protocols and routine school reminders. We are positive that our parents will be as excited as we are about the opportunity to use this new technology. The best part is there is no action necessary on your part because the system is designed to pull from your phone numbers listed in the district's database.  School Connects will be used in addition to our existing modes of communication such as Viking Views, school website, and Facebook page. It is my hope that this will help strengthen the home-school connection and help us keep parents informed through as many modes of communication as possible.

Thank you,

Mrs. Crenshaw

Co-Presidents' Message
Snowmageddon is a fading memory, but I have to talk about it this week.  We are so grateful to all of the staff that safely dismissed our students as the city became locked in labrynth of frozen streets.  We cannot underestimate anyone's role, but our bus drivers were truly on the front lines.  To them we say "Thank you!" I know how relieved I was to greet my kids when they disembarked from the bus that day.

The Book Fair was scheduled to occur during the winter weather shutdown, and we posted record sales that week.. Zero dollars!  Our resilient Book Fair co-chairs, Kim Sims and Sheryl Bomar, rolled with the events and put on a tremendously successful one-day fair last Monday. Thanks to these chairs and the volunteers who were flexible enough to work Monday, the Fair generated over $3,000 Scholastic dollars for the benefit of the Media Center. That money goes a long way. Thanks to all who made the Book Fair happen!

Finally, do you ever wonder who is the genius behind publishing Viking Views?  How was she able to send so many updates about school closings while the rest of us were watching the news, folding laundry and making hot chocolate?  Our faithful servant is none other than Jenn Nail, who looks after us and Viking Views every week.  Thanks, Jenn!

It is truly a joy to volunteer with so many great folks.  It makes Vanderlyn special.

Have a great week !

Julia LeDoyen and Christine Kelemen

Georgia Walk to School Day

Georgia Walk to School Day is Wednesday, March 5, 2014.

Walk to School day is coming up! A special incentive to walk will be going home in VIPs this week - please watch for it.  Remember your options if you live far away, but still want the benefit of walking:
  1. Crosswalk at the light of Mt. Vernon Way and Mt. Vernon
  2. Park at St. Luke's and use the crosswalk at the light of Manhasset Dr. and Mt. Vernon
  3. If you live in Oxford Chase or Dunwoody Club Forest, use the sidewalks on the north side of Mt. Vernon to get to the crosswalk before the corner of Forest Springs Dr. (Dunwoody Club Forest entrance) and have Dunwoody Police stop traffic to cross Mt. Vernon to Stratham.
Be a part of it in more ways than just walking !  You can help with the event by putting stickers on the walkers as they get to school!  Please click here to check out "Walk to School" volunteer options if you are available to help.
