Second Grade Performance
This year's 2nd grade performance of the Nutcracker will be held this Thursday, December 19 at 6 p.m. in the Vanderlyn cafeteria.  Doors will open at 5:30pm.  Children need to report to their classrooms in costume by 5 p.m.  Primm Video will record the performance and accept DVD orders the night of the show in the school lobby.  The cost for the DVD is $20 by cash or check.

First Grade Performance Chair Needed
A volunteer is needed to assist Coach Dwyer with the first grade production, which is scheduled to be performed on March 6, 2014.  This volunteer needs NO EXPERIENCE!  An individual is needed who is willing to support Coach Dwyer and the first grade teachers by coordinating class parents through email communications. This volunteer will also be hands-on the night of the event.  If you are relucant to tackle this fun position by yourself, grab a friend and bring him/her along for the fun!  Contact Laurie Branum at lauriebranum@yahoo.com to inquire.
Check Lost and Found!
Please take the time to check the Vanderlyn Lost & Found before the holiday break in December.  The items in Lost & Found will be sorted, laundered and donated the week that the children come back to school in January.  The "main" Lost & Found is next to the school clinic.  Fourth and fifth graders may have lost & found in their modulars.  If you have any questions, or would like to help sort and launder these items, please contact Suzanne Baisier or Linda McJunkin.

Thank you,
The Citizenship Committee

STEM Career Day Needs You!

Vanderlyn Elementary is excited to announce the first STEM Career Day on February 25, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The purpose for this special career day is to provide our students with the opportunity to learn about STEM careers.

We are in need of enthusiastic and dynamic STEM professionals that will share the intricacies of your occupation with enthusiastic young people. Feel free to bring visual aids and tools used in your occupation. The goal of this event is to have each career pathway represented and inspire students to continue their education in STEM related fields.

If you are interested in sharing your occupation/career with our students, please contact Mrs. Lane, Counselor by December 13, 2013.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Annual Fund Update
Vanderlyn's PTA received a gift of $1000 from COUNTRY Financial in honor of Vanderlyn parent and volunteer Leslie Frohman.  Leslie is a COUNTRY employee and  the current co-chair of VanderDash, a role that she has filled three times in the history of VanderDash.
"COUNTRY cares about the communities in which we operate, and we're proud of our employee and financial representative volunteers," says Steve Denault, COUNTRY executive vice president of Corporate Services. "COUNTRY was founded on the principle of people helping people.  Leslie's volunteerism is an inspiring example of how our people work to strengthen their communities." Frohman was honored with the organization's Community Service Award, a distinction created to recognize dedicated volunteers.

Thank you for your commitment to our school, Leslie!  We agree with COUNTRY that your service to our kids is exceptional!
