Vocabulary Parade -  November 4
The Vocabulary Parade is Monday, November 4 at 9 am! Students should dress in costume to demonstrate a new vocabulary word. Plan to attend to observe, encourage and learn.  Parents, please do not enter the school building for this outdoor event.  Pick a spot near the bus turnaround for a great view!
DCPC Meeting - November 6

The next Dunwoody-Chamblee Parent Council meeting is on Wednesday, November 6, starting with refreshments at 8:45 am.

 

Location: Dunwoody Elementary School

Topic: School System Flexibility in Georgia

 

Come learn about an important upcoming decision that all school districts in Georgia will be making by the summer of 2015. 

 

Panelists will:

  • Explain what school system flexibility means and why Georgia is headed in this direction.
  • Explain the options on the table and the educational and financial implications of these options for our district and schools.
  • Discuss how DeKalb County School District is approaching this decision.
  • Learn about HR Resolution 486 - the Georgia Constitutional Amendment for Independent School Districts what it could mean to Chamblee and Dunwoody.

 

Special Guest Panelists:

  • DCSD Region Three Superintendent, Trenton Arnold
  • Former DCSD Board Member and Education Advocate, Nancy Jester
  • Executive Vice President of GCSA, Andrew Lewis
  • Georgia State House Representative, Tom Taylor
  • Director of the Charter System Foundation, Dan Webber
Spirit Night - November 7
Chick-fil-A 
Plan to attend SPIRIT NIGHT at Chick-fil-A on Thursday, November 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  15% of the sales made by Vanderlyn families will be donated to the school.  Chick-fil-A is located at Perimeter Pointe next to Babies-R-Us. Don't miss this chance to spend an evening socializing with other Vanderlyn families while supporting the school!

 

 

Food Drive

Vanderlyn families, please join the Citizenship Committee with our annual Food Drive scheduled for this week, November 4 through 8.  All of the donations will be brought directly to Malachi's Storehouse, which is here in Dunwoody.  Some items needed are canned goods, peanut butter, dried beans, rice or pasta.  If you have any questions, please contact Suzanne Baisier.  Thank you so much for your willingness to help those families that are in need. 

School Picture Retakes - November 14

Retake Day is November 14!
If you have a new student at Vanderlyn, were absent on picture day the first time, or were not happy with your smile last time, please remember Picture Retake Day will be November 14, 2013. If you have returned your old picture packet to your teacher with RETAKE written on the outside, you should be on the retakes list for the yearbook committee.  If not, send an email to Amy Gaynor, and she will add you to the list.  Most importantly, parents, please remind your student that they need to have their picture taken.  We use these photos for the yearbook, and we want to have all of our students included!
