Dear Parents,

Today at approximately 1:15 pm, DCSD had an emergency situation arise at McNair Discovery Learning Academy. As a precaution, all DeKalb County Schools were placed on a Level 1 lockdown which restricts public access to the school and forbids outside activities for students. Please know that at no time was our school or students in any danger. Students continued with their normal routines while staff members monitored all entry points to the building.

We want you to be aware that Vanderlyn follows a carefully developed Safety Plan to respond effectively to these types of situations. The transition to a lockdown was handled by everyone involved in a smooth and rapid manner. At approximately 1:45, an "all clear" signal was given.

It is comforting to know that our staff responds quickly and professionally in all emergency situations. Our priority is the safety and welfare of our students and staff. Please do not hesitate to call the school if you have any questions.
