A Look Ahead

April

8-12    SPRING BREAK

Book Keepers We Need You!
The PTA Nominating Committee is seeking an individual to fill the role of PTA Treasurer for the 2013-14 school year.  The job requires book keeping skills and a time commitment that averages 10 hours per month.  This position requires a working knowledge of Quicken.  A CPA designation is not necessary for serving at Treasurer.

Please come forward as a candidate to serve if you possess these skills!  Volunteering in this capacity will enable the PTA to continue to provide the support that benefits our students and teachers every day.

Contact the Nominating Committee Chair, Sheryl Bomar or at 678.438.6201.
Parents Needed For School Council

The Vanderlyn School Council is the advisory body to the principal. Members give advice and recommendations on matters that pertain to school attendance, academic achievement, capital improvement plans, curriculum, budget, and school/community strategies.  There are seven parents, three teachers, two business partners and the principal who serve on the council.

We will be holding elections for four parent representative vacancies on May 3, 2013. Parents serve a 2 year term.  The election process begins this week.  You will receive a call for nominations in the VIP on April 4, 2013. Nominations are due on April 18, 2013, by 6 p.m.  Any parent who has at least one child at Vanderlyn during the next two years may run.

Please consider nominating yourself or someone else to serve on the Council. Please contact Tina Wilkinson with any questions.

Field Day T-Shirt
Congratulations to Emily Anderson (4th grader) for submitting the winning design for the Vanderlyn Field Day Shirt!

One last call to order Field Day shirts. If you are interested in ordering a shirt for your child, please send in an envelope with a $5 check made payable to Vanderlyn PTA and a note including shirt size (youth small, youth medium, youth large, adult small or adult medium) to your child's homeroom teacher. Be sure to label the outside of the envelope with the following information: Field Day Shirt, your child's name and homeroom teacher. The final shirt order will be placed April 16th.

This year Field Day will be on Monday, May 13 for grades Kindergarten through Second.  On Tuesday, May 14 we will host Field Day for students in grades Three through Five.  A call for Field Day volunteers will be announced after Spring Break!

For further details, please contact Field Day Co-chair Bridgette Uhde at bridgetteuhde@yahool.com.
DCSS-Calendar NEW 2013-2014

At its April 1 meeting, the DeKalb County Board of Education voted to delay the implementation of the district's balanced calendar until the 2014-15 school year. With it, the Board adopted a traditional calendar.
