New Guidelines for Inter-Library Loan Service and Placing Hold Requests

After several months of service interruption, the Connecticut State Library has issued new guidelines for inter-library loan service through its deliverIT transport system.
To comply with these guidelines, the Ridgefield Library has put new protocols in place that restore access to inter-library loan service (with some limitations) and simplify placing holds once again. Please click here to see full details, or ask any staff member for information.

Lecture: Lenka Pichlikova on The Chekhov Theatre Studio 1939-1942
Actor, producer and drama professor Lenka Pichlíková discusses the Russian-born actor Michael Chekhov, who in 1939 established the Chekhov Ridgefield School in a Connecticut barn. There, he taught classes and honed the Chekhov Method, an approach to acting that has influenced actors from Yul Brynner to Johnny Depp.
Lenka Pichlíková holds an MFA from the Drama Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czech Republic. During her career in Czechoslovakia, Pichlíková created over 40 television roles and performed in 12 Czech and European co-production feature films. Professor Pichlíková serves on the faculty of the Program in Theatre and Performance at the Conservatory of Theatre Arts of SUNY Purchase, where she incorporates both Uta Hagen's and Michael Chekhov's techniques into her teaching, and is an adjunct professor, teaching cultural history and literature, at Fairfield University. She is currently researching the American teaching and acting careers of Michael Chekhov. Please register.

A Sensory Wine-Tasting Experience Friday and Saturday workshop and panel sessions for the 3-day Full STEAM Ahead symposium hosted by the Library and The Aldrich are sold out. But a few tickets remain for this fun Saturday evening outing.
Enjoy Connecticut's own Hopkins Vineyard wines while investigating the highly interdisciplinary art of wine that blends horticulture, chemistry, biology, mechanics, the senses, creativity and more. Discover how master sommeliers learn to understand wine, what's happening in the brain when we taste and smell wine-and how this knowledge and experience is transferred to others. Full STEAM Ahead Community Day
As the culmination of a 3-day symposium on STEAM education and practice (that's Science, Technology, Engineering, Art + Design, and Math), the Library and The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum invite the curious of all ages to an afternoon of inspiring and entertaining free activities.No registration - just drop in at both locations when you can.
Activities at The Aldrich include painting with pendulums, origami, cyanotypes, a life-sized game of Jenga, and much more. Artist, author, and naturalist James Prosek will guide an activity session from 3:15 to 4:30 pm. There will also be a David Brooks Scavenger Hunt -complete the whole list for a chance to win an Aldrich Family membership! At the Ridgefield Library kids and life-long learners can practice coding, 3D printing, 3D design, tinkering with Arduinos and littleBits, participate in a Lego challenge, learn about robotics and hear presentations about Odyssey of the Mind and the Connecticut Invention Convention.

Robotics Club
Robot enthusiasts in grades 5 - 8 are invited to join Mike Garguilo, Ridgefield resident, science teacher and coach of the Sleepy Hollow Middle School Headless Horse-bots (a First LEGO* League Robotics Team), to learn how to work with robots and learn programming. This program is made possible thanks to the generosity of the Donofrio family.
This year there will be spaces for 9 beginners and 6 with prior Robotics experience. Please let us know if your child is experienced in Robotics or a beginner by checking the appropriate box on the registration form. Registration required.
