Summer Reading Program Underway

Summer Reading is underway for all ages, preschoolers through adults. Come and be rewarded for those books you read this summer! Overview of the Arctic with Moki Kokoris

Worldviews: Overview of the Arctic with Moki Kokoris Arctic explorer and education Moki Kokoris gives a fascinating overview of the arctic, which will include: - Personal account of an expedition to the geographic North Pole - Introduction to the Arctic region - comparisons with Antarctica - Atmospheric and optical phenomena unique to the Polar Regions - Science of sea ice, northern lights, climate change, ecology, etc. - Distinct animals of the Far North - their behavior and habitats - Indigenous cultures - their traditional lifestyles and mythology A visionary multidisciplinary educator, editor, writer and environmental advocate, Moki Kokoris is the founder of "90-north" - an outreach education program series that introduces audiences to topics relating to the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions, covering all disciplines from Anthropology to Zoology. Also director of the Wilderness Research Foundation, Visiting Speaker for the Arctic Research Consortium of the US, and member of the Explore Foundation's World Explorers Bureau, she is the first woman of Ukrainian descent to reach the Geographic North Pole.
This program is part of the Library's Worldviews series. It is also part of the Exercise Your Mind Adult Summer Reading program and is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Ridgefield Library. Please register.

Blood Pressure Screening
The Library is please to host free, monthly blood pressure screenings conducted by the Ridgefield VNA. Screening will be available on a drop-in basis on the 2nd Wednesday of each month. Look for the sign-in table in the Main Lobby, and take care of this important task while running your Library errands. Registration is not required.

 During July, the Library's book groups are reading titles related to World War I in conjunction with Ridgefield Remembers World War I, a townwide commemoration organized by the Ridgefield Historical Society and others. Also featured this month is an exhibit of World War I original lithographic posters from the Goodstadt Gallery, on display in the Library's gallery through July 20th.

Author and Ridgefield resident Peter Spiegelman discusses his just-released novel Dr. Knox.

Play Reading: The Fields of Blue and Glow
Join us for part one of Thrown Stone's Summer Reading Series, featuring The Fields of Blue and Glow by August Schulenburg. A dark and stormy night on the Orca Isles... An author is holed up working on his next novel when a long-lost friend appears at the door with an unsettling proposition. The Fields of Blue and Glow is a play about children, growing up, and the power of crossing over into something new.
After the performance of the text, we'll have a brief talk-back with the cast and audience. Light refreshments, beer and wine will be served.

Ladies' Night Out! Color on Wheels Paint and Party Night
The Ladies' Night Out Color on Wheels Paint and Party Night benefiting the Ridgefield Library will be a fun-filled evening of painting with friends while enjoying wine and appetizers. A raffle with great prizes will be held.

The Story Pirates Are Coming!
