Holiday Schedule
flags with fireworks The Library will be closed this weekend on Sunday, July 3rd and Monday the 4th.  We will be open our regular hours 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Saturday - stop by for a new BBQ recipe or a DVD in case of rain.

Summer Reading Program Underway
Summer Reading is underway for all ages, preschoolers through adults.  Come and be rewarded for those books you read this summer! Met Opera HD Summer Encores @ Ridgefield Playhouse: L'Elisir d'Amore
The Library is pleased to join the Ridgefield Playhouse in bringing to Ridgefield great stories, told through opera, ballet and drama by the greatest performing companies in the world - including  the Metropolitan Opera and National Theatre of London.  Come to the Library to learn more about the history of these masterworks and their creators, then experience extraordinary performances on the big screen in HD @ the Playhouse.  This week we are pleased to present an encore screening of Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore.

Ridgefield Library cardholders receive the Playhouse member discount price of $20 on tickets to these HD cultural series - just show your card at the box office.  College students pay only $15 and students 18 and under attend FREE, so introduce your favorite young person to these classics.

Making STEAM: VHS to DVD Conversion
Converting Home VHS to DVD
Do you have home videos in VHS format that you would like convert to DVD? Reserve an individual two-hour session to make a DVD from one of your personal VHS videos (NTSC format only).   Please note that it takes the entire playback time of the video for the conversion to DVD. Available to Ridgefield Library cardholders 13 years of age and older.  Registration required by calling Dorothy Pawlowski at 203-438-2282.
The Story Pirates Are Coming!
The Ridgefield Library and Story Pirates invite short story submissions from young writers going into Grades K-8. Submission deadline is August 15th; Story Pirates performance at the Ridgefield Playhouse on October 1st. $5 submission fee.

Summer Specials for Children and Families

Traditional Family Dance
Children ages 5 and older accompanied by an adult can join the fun and stay fit by dancing traditional dances. Caller Patricia Campbell will do a "walk through" of each dance and guide the group through the moves in square, circle and line dances. The dances will be accompanied by the band "The Reel Thing" including guitar, keyboard, fiddle and flute.  A good time will be had by one and all!  Please wear non rubber soled shoes that will glide on the carpet. (No younger siblings please) This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ridgefield Library.  No registration.

Robotics Workshop for Grades 5-8
Interested in learning to use robots to solve problems? In this interactive experience, kids will use robots as an extension of their imagination to solve complex and interesting problems. They'll develop a deeper understanding of how to build with LEGO technics and have a hands on experience with the LEGO Mindstorms robot programming interface. The goal is that all participants end the program with a more complete understanding and appreciation of the engineering process from mental solution to real world follow through right in front of their eyes. Join science teacher and veteran FLL robotics coach Mike Garguilo in this robot revolution. Registration required.
