Summer Reading Program Underway

Summer Reading is underway for all ages, preschoolers through adults. Come and be rewarded for those books you read this summer! Stop by the individual departments to learn about preschool, children's, teen and adult summer reading programs with exciting incentives, or visit the Summer Reading page on our website.

Author Talk with Cathryn Prince
Cathryn J. Prince, journalist, writer and author will discuss her latest nonfiction book, American Daredevil: The Extraordinary Life of Richard Halliburton, the World's First Celebrity Travel Writer.
For years Cathryn Prince was a contributing correspondent to The Christian Science Monitor. While in Switzerland she covered the Nazi Gold Crisis, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the Swiss Parliament, and a wire tapping scandal. She also regularly contributes to The Times of Israel covering the United Nations and human interest stories. Books will be available for sale and for signing thanks to Books on the Common. Making Pin Cushions and Pouches
Make an accessory for your sewing kit! We will be recycling wool sweaters that have been felted into either pincushions or needle cases. Beginner sewing skills are helpful but not essential. Taught by Pat Corrigan. All materials provided. Registration required.
Converting Home VHS to DVD
Do you have home videos in VHS format that you would like convert to DVD? Reserve an individual two-hour session to make a DVD from one of your personal VHS videos (NTSC format only). Please note that it takes the entire playback time of the video for the conversion to DVD. Available to Ridgefield Library cardholders 13 years of age and older. Registration required by calling Dorothy Pawlowski at 203-438-2282.

Self-Publishing with Richard Mintzner
During his 25+ years in publishing, starting out as an editor, Rich Mintzer has seen the changes that have taken place, including the growth of self-publishing. Today, along with discussing the creative process of writing a book, he talks about how to self-publish your own book - what to look for in a self-publishing house, the red flags that may arise and how to market yourself and your baby...your book.
Rich Mintzer is an accomplished author and ghostwriter with over 80 non-fiction books to his credit. He has written on a wide range of topics including business, finance, retirement, personal memoirs, golf, theater and volunteering as well as several humor books. He has also worked with many people with terrific stories who are looking to write and self-publish their first books. Please register.
This program is part of Tell Your Story, a new series of programs featuring the many ways you can capture your own personal or family history---digitally, with art, using technology, sound, etc. This series is made possible with thanks to funding from colleagues of Nick Donofrio in recognition of his personal journey and pride of family.

Met Opera in HD: Tosca
|  Thursday, June 23, 12 noon Ridgefield Playhouse Met Opera HD Summer Encores @ Ridgefield Playhouse: Tosca The Library is pleased to join the Ridgefield Playhouse in bringing to Ridgefield great stories, told through opera, ballet and drama by the greatest performing companies in the world - including the Metropolitan Opera and National Theatre of London. Come to the Library to learn more about the history of these masterworks and their creators, then experience extraordinary performances on the big screen in HD @ the Playhouse. This week we are pleased to present an encore screening of Puccini's Tosca.
Ridgefield Library cardholders receive the Playhouse member discount price of $20 on tickets to these HD cultural series - just show your card at the box office. College students pay only $15 and students 18 and under attend FREE, so introduce your favorite young person to these classics.
