Author Talk: Rich Cohen on "The Sun & The Moon & The Rolling Stones"

Author Talk: The Sun & The Moon & The Rolling Stones with Rich Cohen
"Cohen writes like Mick Jagger sings: He's full of energy, swagger, and creativity. In one sense, this book is easy to categorize: File under 'books that are awesome and delightful to read.' But it's also hard to categorize. It's part memoir, part cultural history, part biography, part manifesto, part behind-the-scenes look at the joyful debauchery of one of the world's greatest bands. However you label it, you'll have a blast reading it."-A. J. Jacobs

Rich Cohen is the author of the New York Times bestsellers Tough JewsThe Avengers, Monsters, and (with Jerry Weintraub) When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead. He is a co-creator of the HBO series Vinyl and a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone and has written for The New Yorker, The Atlantic, and Harper's Magazine, among others. Cohen has won the Great Lakes Book Award, the Chicago Public Library's 21st Century Award, and the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for outstanding coverage of music. His stories have been included in The Best American Essays and The Best American Travel Writing. He lives in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Please register.

In Dialogue with Timothy Morton and David Brooks' Continuous Service Altered Daily
How do we perceive something as vast and intricate as an ecosystem in our hyperkinetic present era, even though we are situated in the very middle of it? Is it possible to unravel its interlacing chords and measure the magnitude of its life-sustaining impact on the planet-philosophically, psychologically, or experientially? Renowned philosopher Timothy Morton will speak to these questions in an exhibition-specific public lecture, during which he will contemplate the topics raised by artist David Brooks in his exhibition Continuous Service Altered Daily, now on view at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum.  More background about the speakers.

Reception immediately following at The Aldrich, from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. Free!  Registration required at aldrichart.org

Presented in partnership with the Aldrich Contemporry Art Museum. David Brooks's exhibition is on view at The Aldrich, 258 Main Street, Ridgefield, until February 5, 2017. For further information, call 203-438-4519. Generous support for David Brooks: Continuous Service Altered Daily is provided by Brad and Sunny Goldberg.

Putting Flesh on the Bones of Your Ancestor with Toni McKeen
While we all love to go back many generations, as well as going sideways, it is just as important to bring a special relative (or ourselves) alive with an in-depth study of his or her life.  Genealogy guru Toni McKeen breaks the project up into small steps and gives guidelines, and ideas for various topics and chapters, then shows how to put the work into a book format with designed papers, input photos and charts.  She will also include other hints to produce a wonderful book future generations will love to read and treasure. Please register.

Toni McKeen has been researching her own family tree for 25 years. She lectures at Founders Hall in Ridgefield and in other towns in Connecticut, Westchester County, Long Island and New Jersey.

This program is part of Tell Your Story, a new series of programs featuring the many ways you can capture your own personal or family history---digitally, with art, using technology, sound, etc. This series is made possible with thanks to funding from colleagues of Nick Donofrio in recognition of his personal journey and pride of family.
