Important Notice for Ridgefield Library Borrowers
|
For the foreseeable future we will no longer process requests for items we do not own and must revise the procedure for placing a hold on items we do own.
Please do not use the REQUEST IT feature in our online catalog to request items from Ridgefield or other Bibliomation libraries. Instead, please go to any service desk in the library, and our staff will be happy to assist you. We are experiencing a problem affecting the entire state of Connecticut which is not related to the budget woes of the state. Our once reliable delivery system has changed radically, and currently books and other items moving from one community to another can take more than 6 weeks to get delivered to the right spot.

Writers' Workshop: Joanne Dobson on Emily Dickinson
|
Sunday, April 24, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
Dayton Program Room
Workshop: Dare You See a Soul at the White Heat? What a Poet Can Learn from Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson's brilliant poetry followed some rules but broke many others. It's often in those "breaks," when she fractures poetic and grammatical (even biographical) expectations, that her words and her verses (even her letters) become most powerful. This one-session class will delve into Dickinson's life, her practices as a poet, and the eloquent "brokenness" of the poems themselves. Students will also have an opportunity to write a "Dickinson poem" using techniques they've learned from close reading of several of her works. Registration required.
Among other writerly identities such as novelist and memoirist, Joanne Dobson is also an Emily Dickinson scholar and the author of Emily Dickinson and the Strategies of Reticence: The Woman Writer in 19th-century America. She also teaches Dickinson at NEH Summer Institutes for Teachers at Amherst College. This program is part of the Write It! series and is sponsored by the Friends of the Ridgefield Library.

Get your Passport to Connecticut Libraries
|
Did you know that you can use a Ridgefield Library card throughout the state? During the month of April, we will be participating in the Passport to Connecticut Libraries program to encourage cardholders to visit and explore the amazing diversity of the state's public libraries.
With sponsorship from the Connecticut Library Association, over 120 libraries will be participating. Starting on April 1st, pick up your passport and the list of participants at any of our service desks. Then take along your passport as you travel to other libraries and receive a stamp and a token gift from each place you visit. If you have stamps from at least five participants by April 30, you will be entered into a statewide drawing for a chance to win a $150 Visa Gift Card (for adults 18 and over) or a $100 Visa Gift Card for children and teens (under 18). A total of four winners will be randomly selected from two categories; the first is for those who have visited at least five libraries and the second is made up of those from each library with the most passport stamps.
