Author Talk with Lauren Acampora 
Award-winning author Lauren Acampora will discuss her collection of linked stories, The Wonder Garden, released in paperback on February 9 and first published in May 2015 by Grove Atlantic. It was named a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection and an Indie Next selection, and was chosen as one of the best books of the year by Amazon and NPR. It won the GLCA New Writers Award and was a finalist for the New England Book Award. Lauren's short fiction has also appeared in publications such as The Paris Review, Missouri Review, Prairie Schooner, New England Review, Antioch Review, and Day One. Books will be available for sale and signing thanks to Books on the Common.

Learn Through Film Series - America America 
L& L Transmedia in partnership with Ridgefield Library is pleased to continue the Learn Through Film Series this winter with a focus on key 2016 election topics. The series' mission is to build community by inviting discussion about legal, political and/or moral issues.  The next film in the series is Elia Kazan's award-winning film entitled America America (1964), that depicts the inspiring story of one immigrant's dream.  Moderating the discussion afterwards will be Richard Land and Fran Pennarola, Attorneys-at-Law of Chipman & Mazzucco, and WCSU political science Professor Matthew Dabros, Ph.D. Please register.

Maker Group for Adults - Organizational Meeting 
Interested in becoming part of the Library's maker community?   We're starting an ongoing maker group for adults to collaborate on projects involving anything from 3D design and printing, arduinos and raspberry pis, to other maker activities utilizing the skills and interests of the participants.  Come for an organizational meeting to help us launch this group and to offer your ideas.  Limited to those 18 years of age and above. Registration required.

Convert your Home Videos to DVDs! 
Preserve your memories and reserve a two-hour block of time to convert your home videos to DVDs.   Please note that the it takes the entire playback time of the video for the conversion to DVD.  Available to Ridgefield Library cardholders 13 years of age and above. Registration required. Open to the public.  Join us for follow up discussions of topics raised during our Parenting the Selfie Generation series. No registration.

This program is part of a series of talks designed to help parents navigate the often-complicated waters of child-rearing. The series, Parenting the Selfie Generation: Raising Successful Adults, is a joint collaboration between Ridgefield Public Schools, the Ridgefield Council of PTAs, Project Resilience, Silver Hill Hospital and the Ridgefield Library.

The Library is pleased to join the Ridgefield Playhouse in bringing to Ridgefield great stories, told through opera, ballet and drama by the greatest performing companies in the world - the Metropolitan Opera, Bolshoi Ballet and National Theatre of London.  Come to the Library to learn more about the history of these masterworks and their creators, then experience extraordinary performances on the big screen in HD @ The Playhouse.

Ridgefield Library cardholders receive the Playhouse member discount price of $20 on tickets to these HD cultural series - just show your card at the box office.  College students pay only $15 and students 18 and under attend FREE, so introduce your favorite young person to these classics. Volunteers from the AARP will offer free help with income tax filing for low- and moderate-income taxpayers, especially those 60 and older.Tax-Aide sessions will be held at the Ridgefield Library on Thursday mornings from February 11th through April 14th BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Bookmarks Mark Ridgefield

Bookmarks Mark Ridgefield is a community initiative undertaken with The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and inspired by Aldrich artist Ruth Root's ongoing project exploring her love of books. You can take part by creating your own one-of-a-kind bookmark and distributing bookmarks throughout the Library's stacks.  Learn more here.

People in grades 6 - 12 who enjoy trading card games such as Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and Yu-Gi-Oh! are invited to come play on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Library. The club is run by middle school students who are fans of the games. Current players of the games will find people to play against, and those who are interested but have never played are welcome to come and learn. Drop-in; no registration required.
