Helena Hernmarck, internationally known and award-winning tapestry and fiber artist, will discuss the ways in which she created commissioned tapestries working with clients and architects to produce large-scale works that could dominate a lobby or another site specific space. Hernmarck will talk about the unique weaving methods she developed to achieve realism at a distance which are totally different from traditional tapestries woven in Medieval times using the Gobelin Technique as was used in the Unicorn Tapestries at the Cloisters in New York City and the Cluny Museum in Paris. She will talk about her own experience as a tapestry artist/maker and also as an entrepreneur. Please register.

The Library is pleased to join the Ridgefield Playhouse in bringing to Ridgefield great stories, told through opera, ballet and drama by the greatest performing companies in the world - the Metropolitan Opera, Bolshoi Ballet and National Theatre of London. Come to the Library and time to learn more about the history of these masterworks and their creators, then experience extraordinary performances on the big screen in HD @ the Playhouse.
Ridgefield Library cardholders receive the Playhouse member discount price of $20 on tickets to these HD cultural series - just show your card at the box office. Making STEAM: 3D Printing

Orientation to 3D Printing
Are you interested in printing your own 3D design on the Library's Makerbot? We are now offering use of our 3D printer to Ridgefield Library cardholders. Before reserving printer time (available in two-hour blocks), we require attendance at a 90-minute orientation session to go over how to format a design to be print ready, how to operate the Makerbot, and for an overview of our usage policies. Patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.Registration required.

Bookmarks Mark Ridgefield

Bookmarks Mark Ridgefield is a community initiative undertaken with The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum and inspired by Aldrich artist Ruth Root's ongoing project exploring her love of books. You can take part by creating your own one-of-a-kind bookmark and distributing bookmarks throughout the Library's stacks. Learn more here.

Author Talk: Jane Bryant Quinn
Best-selling author and prominent financial journalist Jane Bryant Quinn will discuss her new book, How to Make Your Money Last: The Indispensable Retirement Guide.
Publishers Weekly calls Quinn's book "a hugely valuable resource for readers, wherever they are on their personal financial timeline." Quinn ranges over all the most critical retirement topics.
Copies of How To Make Your Money Last will be available for sale and signing thanks to Books on the Common.

In conjunction with its January Art Show, RMAC (Ridgefield Music and Art Center) will host a Poetry Slam Students in grades six through twelve are invited to share their original poetry, reflecting the "New Beginnings" theme of the art show. The event will be coffee-house style, elaborating on the age-old tradition of coffee houses as social, artistic, and intellectual hubs of a community.
