Lecture: Is There a Catch in The Catcher in the Rye? with Dr. Mark Schenker
Mark Schenker, Dean at Yale College, will lecture on J. D. Salinger's famous 1951 novel in the context of various tensions evident in the book. Is it an impressive enactment of a narrator locked in perpetual adolescence?-Or is there a suggestion at the book's end that Holden has recovered from the literal and figurative falls that he suffers? Is he to be admired for his quest to keep children from losing their innocence by falling into experience, into adulthood?-Or is his belief that "certain things should stay the way they are" just an excuse for his own desire to retreat from the encounters of life? Certainly one of the achievements of the novel is the utter authenticity of Holden's narrative voice, and yet what are we to make of his tendency to go through his life as a kind of absent presence? Please register.

Medicare Workshop with Ridgefield Medicare CHOICES Counselors
Should you be reviewing your coverage and costs during the Open Enrollment period (October 15 to December 7)? The answer is YES... Ridgefield's own Medicare CHOICES counselors are available to help you understand your Medicare coverage and healthcare options.
  • Insurance companies change their plans annually - You may need to too!
  • Talk with one of Ridgefield's trained counselors to determine the best coverage for your needs.
  • Medicare recipients should be examining their coverage annually to make sure it is still the best coverage for your needs.
Let a CHOICES counselor help you through this process at the Ridgefield Library.  Call Karen Gaudian at Ridgefield Social Services 203-431-2754 or email at municipalagent@ridgefieldct.org to set up an appointment.
