Main Program Room
Book Talk: The Music in My Life
Doug Jones will discuss The Music In My Life, the autobiography of his wife of over 60 years, the opera singer Betty Jones. B etty was born into a middle class African American family in Plainfield, NJ and then went on to study art at Sarah Lawrence College. She met her husband and moved to Wilton, CT where the couple still live. The Music in My Life tells how, at the age of 41, she went from singing in the Wilton Congregational Church choir to singing professionally with the Seattle Opera, the New York City Opera and with many more of the world's finest opera companies. She has had many principal soprano roles including Aida, Tosca and Turandot and has performed around the world in Australia, Mexico, Italy, England and Germany. She was also the first soloist with The Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra not long after it was founded. Her farewell to opera came when she performed Odabella in Attila for the City Opera in 1982, following the discovery of her hearing loss. Please register.

Ridgefield Folk Returns with Hayley Reardon
|
Sunday, September 13, 2:00 PM
Main Program Room
Ridgefield Folk: Hayley Reardon
"Brilliantly moving folk/pop with a lyrical depth and soul" - Performer Magazine
At the age of 17, Hayley Reardon is already a knowing troubadour. About her latest release, Blurt Magazine writes, "Wayfindings makes it clear that her stardom is all but assured." American Songwriter Magazine refers to "Numb and Blue," the lead single off the album, as "a melancholy little masterpiece." With a voice that is distinctively rich and a contemplative sincerity in her songwriting, Reardon has far much in common with Patty Griffin and Lucinda Williams, boasting a lyrical and melodic weight far beyond her years. Hayley has spent the past five years sharing the stage with acts like Tom Rush, Peter Yarrow, Buskin & Batteau and opening for the likes of Lori McKenna, Susan Werner, Peter Mulvey and Catie Curtis. She won the Boston Folk Festival Songwriting contest at only 12 years old.
Ridgefield Folk is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Library. Free tickets are available at the door from 1:00 PM on the day of the show. Doors open at 1:30, and the show starts at 2:00 PM.
