Art Walk Exhibits Continue
|
Art Walk is an initiative for artists to display works of art in unique out-of-gallery settings such as merchants up and down Main Street and beyond. It is co-sponsored by the Ridgefield Guild of Artists and the Ridgefield Arts Council. Art Walk is designed to support the arts in Ridgefield while expanding each venue's foot traffic.
The Library is hosting sculptor David Boyajian (on the Library lawn) and sculptors Susan Margolis and Mike Cerullo (on the front lawn--and in the Ruggles Fine Arts Reading Room in the Morris Building). Boyajiian and Margolis work with large-scale organic forms. While Boyajian's sculptures are more abstract and inspired by the energy of nature, Margolis's smaller sculptures are mysterious, quiet and figurative. Cerrulo, on the other hand, will be exhibiting his painted, abstract, geometrically, graffiti-inspired "live painting event" as a work in progress on the front lawn. The works on display will be up through September 11th. There will be a closing reception at The Ridgefield Guild of Artists, 34 Halpin Lane in Ridgefield, on Friday, September 11th to celebrate the conclusion of Art Walk and the Walk on Down Guild Gallery Show.

Chance Browne Exhibit Now Open
| August 8-28 The Gallery on the Lower Level
Exhibit - Outside the Box: Chance Browne Comic and Fine Art
Robert "Chance" Browne is an American comic strip artist and cartoonist, painter, and musician. Along with a selection of his comic art, Chance will exhibit a selection of his paintings, drawings and prints of his 3-D constructions.
Drawing the comics, as a rule, involves staying inside boxes. "Outside the Box" will include a selection of Browne's original "Hi and Lois" illustrations as well as his fine art. In addition to landscapes and portraits, Browne will show constructions made from found materials. The eldest son of the late cartoonist Dik Browne ("Hagar the Horrible," "Hi and Lois"), Chance grew up in Wilton, Connecticut. He attended The New York School of Visual Arts and studied painting at Park College in Missouri. He has served as president of the family's company, Browne Creative Enterprises Inc., since 1989, while illustrating "Hi and Lois" and editing material for "Hagar the Horrible."
