Author Talk - The Extra Mile: Exploring the Limits of Endurance with Jennifer Pharr Davis

In this talk Jennifer Pharr Davis offers a riveting account of overcoming the odds and setting the 46-day, 47-mile-per-day Appalachian Trail record. She honestly relays the internal and external struggles of trying to maximize her miles and her potential. This is an inspired tale of determination, endurance, and teamwork. If you want to be motivated to do more than you ever thought possible, this is the talk for you.

Jennifer is the owner and founder of Blue Ridge Hiking Company. Her adventures have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post and on NPR's Talk of the Nation. She has appeared on national television shows such as CNN Headline News, Fox and Friends, the CBS Early Show and the 700 Club. Jennifer has been named Blue Ridge Outdoors Person of the Year and a National Geographic Adventurer of the year. Her Appalachian Trail record was voted Ultrarunning Magazine's Female Performance of 2011. Copies of her book The Extra Mile

will be available for sale and signing at the event.  Please register.

The program is presented by the Library and Run Like a Mother 5K and is part of the Noreen L. Papa - Mothers: Live Your Life series. It is also part of the Library's adult summer reading program, Every Hero Has a Story, that is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Library.

3D Printing Orientation
Are you interested in printing your own 3D design on the Library's Makerbot?  We are now offering use of our 3D printer to Ridgefield Library cardholders.  Before reserving printer time (available in two-hour blocks), we require attendance at a 90-minute orientation session to go over how to format a design to be print ready, how to operate the Makerbot, and for an overview of our usage policies. Patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Space is limited so registration is required.  Once you've attended a training session, you can reserve time to use the Makerbot.

Comic Con on Saturday will include several programs on 3D printing and animation.  Get all the details.
