Author Talk with Betty Lischke

Monday, June 29, 7:00 PM

Main Program Room

Author Talk with Betty Lischke

Ridgefielder Bette Lischke (known as Cathy Hanlon in her Ridgefield High School days) will be at the Library to discuss her recently released debut novel, In the Waters of Time.

In the Waters of Time sweeps readers from the fresh air of the New England coast, to the claustrophobic, squalid quarters of an Irish immigrant ship and back, in a transformational tale that explores the power of attraction across lives - and the possibilities for love in the present when the waters of time recede. The author presently lives in Newburyport, MA with her husband Jerry Lischke. Books will be available for sale and signing thanks to Books on the Common.

3D Printing Orientation
Are you interested in printing your own 3D design on the Library's Makerbot?  We are now offering use of our 3D printer to Ridgefield Library cardholders.  Before reserving printer time (available in two-hour blocks), we require attendance at a 90-minute orientation session to go over how to format a design to be print ready, how to operate the Makerbot, and for an overview of our usage policies. Patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Space is limited so registration is required.  Once you've attended a training session, you can reserve time to use the Makerbot.

Introduction to 3D Animation Using Blender

Part 1 on Tuesday, June 30 - Part 2 on Tuesday, July 7.

Ever wonder how movies are made with all those really cool special effects? We will work with animation tools like Key Frame Animation of simple objects, Dope Sheets, Time Lines and Graphical Editors to become familiar with the basics. Using Blender 3D, we will discover some of the elemental building blocks to see how it is all done. Previous experience with Blender 3D or other 3D animation software is beneficial, but not necessary.

This is a two part hands-on 3D Animation Design Workshop. The class is led by Chris Iorillo. The second part will take place on Saturday, July 18.  Please only register if you are able to attend both session. This program is aimed at teens and adults. Anyone under 15 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

New Comic Art Exhibit Opens Wednesday

Bill Walko, the artist and owner behind the web comic The Hero Biz, will exhibit a selection of his comic art at the Library during July.

Bill Walko is a man with several secret identities. Illustrator. Designer. Writer. Strategist. With over 15 years experience, he's adopted many different guises working with with a variety of agencies in the greater New York City area. And in that time, he's lent his expertise to a wide variety of marketing projects from print to multimedia to radio to television. But comic book fans know Bill best as the creator, writer and artist of The Hero Business, a self-published comic that playfully pokes fun at super-hero tropes. The strip has received accolades from Bleeding Cool, io9.com, Comic Book Resources and Comic News Insider, among others. The series was also nominated for "Favorite Webcomic" in the 2012 Comic Buyers Guide Fan Awards Poll and recently completed a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign.

As part of the Ridgefield Library Comic Con he will also give a presentation about webcomics - what they are, how they began, how they are growing in popularity and about his successful use of Kickstarter, the online funding platform, on Saturday, July 25 at 11:00 AM.

This exhibit is part of the Library's Every Hero Has a Story summer reading program that is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Library.
