Computer System Maintenance April 11-12
The Library's computer systems will be offline for scheduled maintenance from 7:00 PM, Saturday, April 11th through noon on Sunday, April 12th.  This will not affect service during the Library's open hours, but some functions will be unavailable overnight, including our online catalog and the My Account feature.  You will not be able to renew items or place reserve requests, and many databases that require a library card number for log-in may be unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience, but look forward to improved functioning from this upgrade.

World Views: Helping Street Children in Kenya

Brian Ash, a 2009 graduate of Ridgefield High School, will discuss his work as President of the non-profit organization, Arrive, which helps street children in Kenya. Brian Ash founded Arrive in 2013 after a trip to Africa.  While there he witnessed the tragic life of the Kenyan street children and vowed to return to Kenya to provide a second chance for some of these children.  Arrive's mission is to "generate positive action and sustainable advancement to empower children in impoverished regions of the world by providing shelter, promoting good health, offering access to education and giving at risk children tools and opportunities for a successful, independent, and fulfilling life." Talk: Outsider Art with Pam Rogers

Pam Rogers from the Outsider Art Gallery Pure Vision in New York City will talk about Outsider Art, Neurodiversity and the Culture of Autism. This lecture will examine how specialized art studios are changing the landscape of outsider art. It will also explore the concept of neurodiversity, the culture of autism, and the savant-garde which has historically influenced the arts and sciences and includes luminaries such as Andy Warhol and Albert Einstein.

3D Printing Orientation

Are you interested in printing your own 3D design on the Library's Makerbot?  We are now offering use of our 3D printer to Ridgefield Library cardholders.  Before reserving printer time (available in two-hour blocks), we require attendance at a 90-minute orientation session to go over how to format a design to be print ready, how to operate the Makerbot, and for an overview of our usage policies. Patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Space is limited so registration is required

 

Once you've attended a training session, you can reserve time to use the Makerbot by calling Head of Adult Services Dorothy Pawlowski at 203-438-2282 x11003.

A hands-on 3D Design Workshop for those who have already attended the Part 1 (introduction) and Part 2 Blender classes and who feel ready for the next level!.  The class is led by Chris Iorillo. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide

Volunteers from the AARP will offer free help with income tax filing for low- and moderate-income taxpayers, especially those 60 and older.Tax-Aide sessions will be held at the Ridgefield Library on Thursday mornings from February 5th through April 9th BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. This week appointments also available for Tuesday and Friday. Tax-Aide is not a Library program.  For appointment or information please call 203-438-4288.

Vote this Month for your Favorite Nutmeg Nominee
Nutmeg Logo The Nutmeg Book Awards are Connecticut's premiere recognition for outstanding children's literature, voted on by young readers across the state. Each year, children read quality literature and choose their favorite from a list of ten nominated titles in four categories.  All votes must be in by Thursday, April 30th. You can only vote once! If you choose to cast your vote at the Ridgefield Library, please use our online voting form available on our website.
