BoardServe Training Workshops

BoardServe Western CT is an initiative of The Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut that builds the capacity of nonprofits in Western Connecticut by training board member candidates in nonprofit governance and actively preparing nonprofits to recruit, engage and utilize new board members.

 

The Ridgefield Library and the Non-Profit Council of the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce are pleased to partner with the United Way to bring BoardServe Western CT to Ridgefield.

ARTalk: Nurturing the Creative Home 

Donald Rattner, a widely published architect and principal of Studio for A.R.T. and Architecture, will give a presentation about "how we cultivate creativity in our children so they grow up happy and fulfilled and able to compete in a global marketplace that rewards innovation." According to Rattner, household products and furnishings that are designed to cultivate creative thinking via hands-on interactivity, limitless reconfigure-abililty and problem-solving functionality are key to making home an incubator of innovation for children and adults alike. Rattner will talk about and draw from his new title, The Creativity Catalog: 300 of the World's Most Creative Things, and How They Can Make  You Creative, Too. Books will be available for sale and signing after the presentation.  Please register.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide
news.jpg Volunteers from the AARP will offer free help with income tax filing for low- and moderate-income taxpayers, especially those 60 and older.Tax-Aide sessions will be held at the Ridgefield Library on Thursday mornings from February 5th through April 9th BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Tax-Aide is not a Library program.  For appointment or information please call 203-438-4288.

Registration is now underway through March 23 for spring preschool programs and after school activities.  Some programs are drop-in and some require pre-registration.  Check the Children's Programs page for details and online registration as necessary.

Reading Together Workshop
Children in Grades 3 and 4, together with a parent, are invited to a very special book discussion. Families are required to sign up in advance, then come to the Library to pick up a personal copy of Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner to read and discuss together.  On March 18, families come to the Lodewick Children's Library for a delicious pizza dinner followed by a discussion of the book. Library staff will demonstrate and talk with parents about the type of dialogue they could have at home while sharing books with their children so that children can find more meaning in literature.  Attendees will receive a copy of the book Reading Together by Diane Frankenstein which lists 100 books that you can share with your child together with suggested discussion questions and ideas. School age siblings may attend.   Registration required.

Read the book at the Library, then see the show at the Playhouse! Presented by Theatre IV, adapted from the book by Rudyard Kipling.  Join young Mowgli as he learns the 'Laws' of the jungle in this time-honored adventure. Pepsi Children's Series, partially underwritten by Books on the Common, Kiwi Country Day Camp, Ridgefield Academy, South Salem Animal Hospital/Noah's Ark Animal Hospital, with support from the Ridgefield Library.
