Guest Bartender Night Features Trivia

Guest Bartender Night and Trivia Challenge

Try your hand at trivia challenges on familiar topics such as Wild Game, Downton Abbey, sports, Academy Awards, and library trivia...while enjoying the libation of your choice and supporting the Library!  You'll recognize some great bartenders behind the bar from recent Library events such as the Wild Game Dinner and We're Doing Downton ...and, of course, Library Director Chris Nolan will be there too.  All tips benefit the Library. Gallo will contribute 10% of the evening's liquor bill as well.

3D Printer Orientation

Are you interested in printing your own 3D design on the Library's Makerbot?  We are now offering use of our 3D printer to Ridgefield Library cardholders.  Before reserving printer time (available in two-hour blocks), we require attendance at a 90-minute orientation session to go over how to format a design to be print ready, how to operate the Makerbot, and for an overview of our usage policies. Patrons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Space is limited so registration is required.  

 

Once you've attended a training session, you can reserve time to use the Makerbot by calling Head of Adult Services Dorothy Pawlowski at 203-438-2282 x11003.

Keep Your Computer Running Safely and Smoothly 
Join us to learn "Tips and Tricks to Keep Your Computer Running Smoothly". The program will be led by Doug Hayden, president and senior technician at CT PC Tech (formerly CT PC Exchange) in Ridgefield. Hayden graduated from WCSU with a B.A. in Computer Science. He worked at General Electric and IBM in analysis and programming and then focused on smaller companies and a mix of software / hardware duties. Please register.

Author Talk: The 52: Discovering the True You in 52 Simple Lessons 
Ridgefielder Deanne Mincer who will talk about her new book, The 52: Discovering the True You in 52 Simple Lessons. Mincer is inspired by several profound teaching sources such as A Course in Miracles, classic Yoga texts and the mystical poetry of Rumi. The talk is designed to inspire and teach practical, easy and accessible methods to earn to love, respect, and honor ourselves more fully every day. Elements of the talk are experiential and interactive.  The content is easily understood, simple and meant to show how we can let go of negativity and embrace a more peaceful, kind and nurturing life.

 
Deanne Mincer has taught yoga, meditation, and spiritual classes for more than 25 years.  She gained her yoga certification from the Himalayan Institute, a comprehensive two year program that includes the study of anatomy, diet, nutrition, Ayurvedic medical practices, the methods of teaching hatha yoga, the science of breath and the study of raja (the royal path of yoga) philosophy.  She was a consulting producer on an alternative health program for CNBC's Alive and Wellness, and she has demonstrated yoga on network television.  Deanne created the audio CD Inner Light Yoga with Deanne Mincer and she has spoken widely and demonstrated meditation in many venues.  Please register.

The Art of Marketing for the Visual and Performing Arts
In today's arts market, it takes much more than hanging a painting on a gallery wall to make a sale or set a date for a performance of any kind.  Ms. Mathy will discuss integrated marketing communications, basic business skills, and the need for visual and performing artists to create their own "brand identity." Audience members are welcome to attend a wine reception at Watershed Gallery, 23 Governor Street, immediately following the talk.
 

Jennifer Mathy is the director and co-owner of Watershed Gallery, a fine arts gallery representing emerging and mid-career artists in Ridgefield, CT.  Ms. Mathy's 25-year career as a marketing communications specialist includes her work as publicist for the Northwestern University arts program and for an improvisational comedy troupe, the Orange County Crazies. Ms. Mathy served as brand manager of advertising/sponsorship for Discover Card (where she marketed sponsorships such as the Grammy Festival, the Smithsonian Institution's 150th Anniversary traveling exhibition,  and Jazz@Lincoln Center). She went on to work as vice president of advertising and brand management for Morgan Stanley, and recently operated her own marketing consultancy for small to mid-sized businesses. She currently sits on the board of the Ridgefield Arts Council. Please register.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide
news.jpg Volunteers from the AARP will offer free help with income tax filing for low- and moderate-income taxpayers, especially those 60 and older.Tax-Aide sessions will be held at the Ridgefield Library on Thursday mornings from February 5th through April 9th BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Tax-Aide is not a Library program.  For appointment or information please call 203-438-4288.

Children in Grades 3 - 5 together with an adult are invited to join a special family book discussion on February 25th following a delicious pizza dinner.  Book to be discussed: Starry River of the Sky by Grace Lin.  Sign up in person in the Lodewick Children's Library and pick up your free family copy of the book.  A $5. per person refundable deposit is required when registering. People in middle school and high school are invited to get technical. On the third Thursday of each month, teens can drop in and we'll delve into various technologies. 

This month: we'll explore archaeological excavation with Legos and ice blocks.
