Foundation Funding Workshop

Main Program Room
How to Secure Funding from Foundations with Judith Margolin
Foundations are mysterious institutions to those unfamiliar with them. This workshop demystifies the process of securing foundation funding.  It provides a thorough grounding in what foundations are all about, including how many there are, who runs them, trends in foundation giving and how to learn more about them.  The workshop focuses on what motivates foundations to give and helps participants determine why a funder might or might not support their nonprofit organization.

Judith Margolin is an independent consultant, workshop and webinar leader on foundations and grants.  She served as Vice President for Planning and Evaluation at the Foundation Center, the nation's leading authority on philanthropy, for a number of years. She is the author of several books, including The Individual's Guide to Grants and Financing a College Education and has served as editor of multiple editions of the Foundation Center's how-to books.

This program is aimed at nonprofit organizations, their staff, board members and volunteers.  Individuals will also learn valuable information.  3 hours - light refreshments will be served. Please register.

ARTalk: Creative Wisdom - New Thinking About Aging and Creativity in the 21st Century

Steve Dahlberg, Director of International Centre for Creativity and Imagination, will lead participants as they explore questions about "Creative Wisdom" in a format that will be part dialogue, part experiential workshop. No matter what your age, come and explore:

  • What your age means to you - and whether this fits with the expectations society has taught you about certain ages.
  • What opportunities and challenges you see ahead for yourself - and for an increasingly older society.
  • What role creativity can play in helping you explore transitions from full-time work - and in living the second half of your life on purpose.
  • How Creative Wisdom might be applied to improve community well-being and the common good.

Lecture:  World War I and American Literary Modernism

The great American poet T. S. Eliot wrote in The Waste Land, "I had not thought death had undone so many," uniting in the image of a crowd of dead men passing over London Bridge the unreality of The Inferno with the reality of the aftermath of the First World War.  Mark Schenker, Dean of Academic Affairs in Yale College, will discuss the impact of WWI on a number of American writers, including F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, T. S. Eliot and Willa Cather, as these authors took up what one critic has called "the task of restoring freshness to a much-abused language." Please register.
