Summerfest '64: Ridgefield Rewinds

It's the annual sidewalk celebration organized by the Chamber of Commerce - this year, with a twist! We are looking back 50 years to Ridgefield, circa 1964, with music, fashion, cars, art, food, fads and more from this memorable and exciting time.  Events around town start Friday evening and run through the day on Saturday.    Check out the whole schedule at the Destination Ridgefield website, and make sure not to miss these special activities taking place at the Library.  

 

Saturday 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM  Exhibit in the Gallery on the Lower Level: Pop-Up Portraits by Roy Weinstein (exhibit runs through July 30 and can be viewed during the Library's open hours)

 

Saturday 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM  Celebrating 50 Years of Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are":

* Get your picture taken with The Wild Thing, who will be on hand throughout the Library

* Hunt for Max with an "I Spy" style scavenger hunt in the Lodewick Children's Library

* Try your hand at some sidewalk chalk art

3D Printing and Design 101 with Chris Iorillo

Chris Iorillo will give a brief overview of types of 3D printers and the software that is used to create objects.  Come with your own ideas of things you would like to print and Chris will show you how to get started. Ridgefielder Chris Iorillo has 8 years of 3d graphics and modeling experience and is an accomplished 3D artists.  Check out some of his amazing work at his website. No registration.

Ridgefield Folk with Laura Zucker

Singer-songwriter Laura Zucker wins audiences over with a hard-won perspective and a positive spin. The powerful imagery of her songs and stories ring so true you might think she's read your diary - and you'll find yourself humming her infectious melodies for days to come. A New Jersey native transplanted to California (via Ridgefield, Connecticut), she is a two-time finalist in the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk competition in Texas and has received numerous accolades and awards from the organizations around the world.

 

This program is part of the Library's Adult Summer Reading program and the Ridgefield Folk series and is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Ridgefield Library. Free tickets can be picked up at the door on the day of the show starting at 1:00 PM. Doors open at 1:30 and the show starts at 2:00 PM.

Clothespin Kids Circle of Friends

Ask in the Lodewick Children's Library for supplies to make a clothespin kid to add to our circle of friends. Make at home and return clothespin kid to be added to the library display. Recommended for ages 6 & up.

Where's Waldo in Ridgefield?

You can find this beloved character at the Library and 24 other locations around town until the end of the month.  

 

Pick up your passport at Books on the Common and get it stamped each place you spot Waldo to win prizes!

The 2015 Intermediate Nutmeg Nominees are here and we want to get together with you to talk about them!!!  Join Children's Services Librarian Mary Beth Rassulo each week to discuss a selected nominee.  Bring your lunch and we'll eat and discuss great books!  This week's title:  Joshua Dread by Lee Bacon.  Copies of the book are available in the Lodewick Children's Library. For children in grades 4-6.
