The Friends of the Library's ongoing selection of used books for sale anytime can now be found near the elevator in the Bossidy Commons.  Check it out for great vacation reads at great prices! Pay at the Circulation Desk - all proceeds benefit the Library.

In conjunction with the town's Ridgefield Rewinds Summer Fest '64 events this July, the Library will host an exhibit of Pop-Art Portraits by local photographer and artist Roy Weinstein.  The exhibition will run from July 2 through July 29.

Pastel Workshop: How to Paint the Waterlilies

Monet's Mirrors: How to Pastel Paint the Water Lilies

Gregory Maichack, an accomplished and award winning pastel artist will take a a group (capped at 25) through the hands-on steps of breaking down and building up Monet water lilies forms in pastel. Attention will be given to Impressionist line and color and reducing forms like water and lilies and incorporating them into strong, colorful compositions. Maichack will demonstrate with imagery and key linear progressions how lines are drawn and overlaid to form beautiful work.

 

This program is free but a $5 materials fee will be collected at the door. This program is part of the Library's Adult Summer Reading program and is made possible thanks to the Friends of the Ridgefield Library. Please register.

The Great American Songbook

Lecture: The Great American Songbook

Michael Lasser talks about "The Great American Songbook," those unequalled songs written between 1920 and 1950 by such songwriters as Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, and George and Ira Gershwin. Michael Lasser is a lecturer, writer, broadcaster, critic, and teacher. He is the author of America's Songs II: From the 1890s to the Post-War Years (2013), a companion volume to his and Philip Furia's America's Songs: The Stories Behind the Songs of Broadway, Hollywood, and Tin Pan Alley (2006). Since 1980, he has been the host of the nationally syndicated public radio show, Fascinatin' Rhythm, winner of a 1994 Peabody Award.

Sign Up Now for Talent Show on July 24th
The "Ridgefield Kids Got Talent Show" will take place at the Library on July 24 from 4:00 to 5:30 PM.  The contest is open to kids 5 years and older who are available on the show day and also for the dress rehearsal on July 23 at the same time. Performances should last about 5 minutes, and any kind of act is welcome - singing, dancing, reciting poetry, skits, etc. Come to the Children's Library in person to sign up, tell about your talent and choose the time you want to perform.

This summer, the Ridgefield Library is fortunate to have been selected as an affiliate for the Maker Camp program that runs from July 7 through August 15. Sponsored by Make Magazine and Google, this program encourages teens to "do it themselves" and get creative by, well, making things!  Then we'll use Google+ to share things we've created, and we want to see what Ridgefield teens come up with!
