New "Wish List" Allows Donors to Help Outfit the New Ridgefield Library
Choose from dozens of items at giving levels from $50 to $15,000
As construction continues apace, we are turning our attention to procuring the multitude of items we will need to make the New Library function as a vibrant, efficient and comfortable building once we move in during the spring. Furniture, fixtures and equipment to support library services and operations have been ordered, and now we are seeking individuals, families and businesses to step up and help pay for these purchases. In addition to furnishings for the New Library, you may also choose to support some of our ongoing programs and collections like Books & Breakfast or downloadable e-book subscriptions. Here is just a sampling of some of the items in this online catalog. You can browse the entire list on our website. - Animal-themed child-sized chairs for the pre-school reading and play area in the Children's Library.
- Sets of dishes for the Program Room kitchen.
- An AED defibrillator to make the Library a "Heart Safe" facility
- Die-cut machine for creating shapes, letters and other artwork for craft programs
- Queen Anne wingback chairs in the Morris Reading Rooms
Make a donation in honor of a family member or friend, and we will provide a Ridgefield Library tote bag and gift card to give to the recipient.

Library Adopts Strategic Plan for 2013-2016

OUR VISION - To be the centerpiece of Ridgefield, an essential partner and destination of choice for our community: the place where people go to read, discover, question, connect and thrive. The process of gathering town support for building the New Ridgefield Library, opening in 2014, sparked a healthy debate about the relative worth of the Library, and about the future of libraries in general. At numerous public forums, on the sidelines, and in social gatherings we talked about the future of books, the social value of gathering to learn together, and how different citizens find value and solace in their local library. Following the successful referendum vote, we saw an opportunity to continue this conversation to ensure that our New Ridgefield Library is responsive, efficient and vital. Thus began our Strategic Planning process. Since then over 600 community members participated in creating this new Strategic Plan, which we are pleased to share with you now. You may click here to learn more about who was involved and about the new Vision, Mission, Values and Objectives adopted by the Board of Directors to lead us forward.

"Welcome to The Authors' Corner"
When I heard about Marcia's mural, I saw it as a victory over the shredder.
I like being part of something that acknowledges that books are important. And I like supporting libraries that honor books and keep them alive.
The Authors' Corner is dedicated to those of us who make something out of nothing. And it's a place where we -- and our books -- won't be alone.
- Author Jessica Auerbach at Launch Party for The Authors' Corner, September 2013

The Authors' Corner on the Community Mural LaunchedA lively crowd gathered at the Library's temporary headquarters on September 25th to launch a new feature on the Community Mural to be installed in the New Ridgefield Library. Dubbed "The Authors' Corner," it will be a special area showcasing book spines inscribed with the titles of publications by Ridgefield authors, past, present and future. Mural artist Marcia Simha was on hand to explain the creative process, and writer Jessica Auerbach spoke eloquently and humorously on the important role libraries play in keeping authors' works alive despite the vicissitudes of the commercial publishing environment. More than a dozen local writers are represented in The Authors' Corner so far. Contact Development Associate Laureen Bubniak at 203-438-2282 x1029 or lmbubniak@ridgefieldlibrary.org to find out how you can add your books to The Authors' Corner.
