The Big Library Read Is Here!
From September 16th through 30th, the Ridgefield Library will be participating in a Big Library Read sponsored by OverDrive, the library's platform for accessing eBooks and downloadable audiobooks.

This year's Big Library Read is geared toward fans of juvenile fiction and will feature "Nancy Clancy, Super Sleuth," Book 1 of Jane O'Connor's new chapter book series based on the popular "Fancy Nancy" picture books. For these two weeks, this title will be offered for simultaneous download by any Ridgefield Library cardholder.   What this means is that access to both the eBook and downloadable audiobook versions will be available to multiple users for immediate download with no waitlists or holds. Praised by Booklist as "a delightful story of dress-up and cozy family love," the book will be offered in formats compatible with most computers, tablets and smartphones and accessible from anywhere with an Internet connection.

Get your Big Library Read download of Nancy Clancy, Super Sleuth at http://bibliomation.lib.overdrive.com.

Lecture & Discussion: The Life and Times of the Serious Reader
Thursday, September 19, 7:00 PM
Library Program Room

The Life and Times of the Serious Reader

In this talk, Emmy-winning journalist Eric Burns will discuss some of history's great readers. He will explain why, today, the serious reader is an endangered species, and will share his concerns about what this might mean for the future. Above all he will discuss why there is not only a joy to books, but an enrichment that cannot be found elsewhere.  There will be lots of time for members of the audience to participate in the discussion and share their own special books and what they have meant to them.

Eric Burns was an anchor for Fox's News Watch program for many years.  He has written nine books including Smoke of the Gods: A Social History of Tobacco and The Spirit of America: A Social History of Alcohol.  He lives in Ridgefield.  Please register.
