The special programs are over, and the volunteers have gone home, but you can still log your books online and collect your prizes (EXCEPT THE PHOTO) until August 27, the first day of of school. Print off a nice, neat reading list for teachers using the online program. And KEEP READING!

Author Talk: Mark Slouka 
Books on the Common and the Ridgefield Library present an Author Talk with Mark Slouka, who will discuss his recently released novel Brewster.Mark Slouka is the author of Lost Lake, a New York Times Notable Book. His short stories have appeared multiple times in the yearly anthology Best American Short Stories. He is a contributing editor at Harper's and lives in Brewster, New York.

Mark was heard on the Leonard Lopate Show on WNYC Radio last week and reviewed in the New York Times Sunday.  Don't miss him here in Ridgefield!

Thai Meditation Workshop

Meditation Workshop

Thai meditation teacher Achan Niphen will conduct two meditation workshops on Thursday, August 15 and Thursday, August 22. Achan Niphen teaches Mahasati meditation, which is a form of vipassana, or insight meditation, originating from Southeast Asia.   Suitable for both new and experienced meditators, the workshops will combine lecture, demonstration, and actual meditation practice.  As this workshop has 2 sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to ask Achan Niphen questions regarding their practice after trying the technique for a week.  Please wear loose, comfortable clothing.

 

Meditation master Achan Niphen is a Theravada monk in the Thai Forest tradition. He is abbot of the Janlan Forest monastery in Northeastern Thailand and has been practicing meditation for over 25 years.

An amazing bubble experience for children ages 5 and older accompanied by an adult.  Keith Michael Johnson will enchant and educate about the science of bubbles. We will celebrate the end of our summer reading program!  Sponsored by the Friends of the Ridgefield Library.  Co-sponsored by and held at the Ridgefield Parks and Recreation Center.  No registration.
