Take our Community Survey and Tell Us What You Think
Ridgefield Library logo As we get ready to move into our new building, we are developing a new Strategic Plan which will help us to better define our role in the community and pinpoint those programs, resources and services which are most important to our users.
at the Library or from your own computer (hard copies are also available at the Library). The survey will be open through January 31st. Thanks for your input!

Author Talk: The Second Nuclear Age: Strategy, Danger, and the New Power Politics by Paul Bracken
Ridgefielder Paul Bracken is currently a professor at Yale University. His book is about the changing face of global politics as nuclear weapons reemerge as a very real threat. Drawing on his years of experience analyzing national defense strategy, Bracken argues that the reemergence of nuclear weapons will transform the way we respond to conflict escalation. He will walk the audience through realistic war-game scenarios involving the Middle East, South Asia, and East Asia to emphasize how the United States must be prepared for managing such crises.

This program is co-sponsored by Books on the Common. Books will be available for sale and signing at the event.  No registration.

Tech Fridays: Let's Talk Apps
Do you own a smartphone or tablet and feel overwhelmed by the number of apps available? Whether you are new to the world of apps or an old hand, choosing from thousands of choices can be daunting.  Join us as we offer some tips on how to select the best apps for your needs and come share your own favorites!

Tech Fridays: Do you want to use an online resource or a new technology but feel overwhelmed by the learning curve involved?  Then, drop in to Tech Fridays.  Each month, we'll pick a topic related to technology, and one of our staff will be available to answer your questions and demonstrate how to become an empowered user of online resources and electronic devices.
IRA Charitable Distribution Program Restored for 2013 - and 2012!
The recently passed American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 restored a program allowing those aged 70-1/2 and older to make charitable contributions to qualifying non-profits directly from an IRA. In certain circumstances, you can even apply this retroactively to minimum required IRA distributions received in 2012, if you act before the end of this month. Learn more about how these provisions of ATRA can be of benefit to you - and to the Library.
