An Ending - and a Beginning

Demolition Begins Tomorrow - January 2nd!

The construction fence is up, the project trailer is buzzing with activity, and demolition begins in earnest tomorrow, January 2nd! Our project team, including Newman Architects, construction manager Dimeo Construction Company, and owner's representative The Westview Group, has been busy behind the scenes getting ready for this big moment - signing up subcontractors, acquiring permits, completing required testing and myriad other details of a big project such as this.

This will be a bittersweet moment for many, as much of the building we know comes down to the ground (never fear - the original 1903 Morris Memorial wing will remain intact).  But we are excited about what comes next - a new library that incorporates sustainability, flexibility, comfort of use,a advanced technology, and other hallmarks of an exemplary public building. You can follow the progress of the construction on our project website at www.thenewridgefieldlibrary.org.

3 Months To Go with Only $300,000 Remaining To Be Raised
The Campaign for the New Ridgefield Library is the largest capital campaign in the history of our town. Over 1,500 gifts have been made to this campaign, predominantly from Ridgefield residents and businesses, but donations have also been received from family and friends of Ridgefielders, past residents of the town, foundations, corporations, and the state of Connecticut.  Together, these contributions, ranging from $10 to over $1 million, total $14.7 million thus far.  There is only $300,000 left to be raised to meet our $15 million goal.  This $300,000 is critical, however, as it needs to be reached in order for the $5 million approved in the town referendum to be released. This must happen between now and April 1, 2013.  You can be the one to help ensure that we meet our goal.

Make your gift today!  All gifts count and are needed to help us reach the $300,000.  Gifts of all sizes are appreciated.  All donors of $10,000 and above will be recognized on the beautiful Wall of Donors in the main lobby of the New Library (see the current Wall of Donors listing or the full list of all donors to the Campaign).

Make your donation online today. Gifts can be paid in cash or gifts of stock or fulfilled with a pledge payable over a period of up to 5 years.  For questions, contact Campaign Development Associate Laureen Bubniak at lmbubniak@ridgefieldlibrary.org or 203-438-2282 x1029.

We've come this far - together we will cross the finish line.
Leadership in Energy Efficient Design (LEED) is a designation conferred by the U.S. Green Building Council on buildings that demonstrate a meaningful commitment to the principles of environmentally sound and sustainable design.

We are pleased to acknowledge the major support of Praxair for their sponsorship of our LEED certification process.

Going Green Will Yield Many Benefits

The New Ridgefield Library is set to become the first LEED certified public building in town. The LEED certification process is a powerful tool to ensure that the New Ridgefield Library will be an environmentally responsible and healthy place to visit and work. Among the benefits will be a high efficiency building envelope, incorporation of abundant natural light, sensor-operated fixtures, and more consistent and controllable ambient temperatures, all leading to greater control over utility usage.

As part of the LEED process, the Ridgefield Library is committed to public education about green design and how it will benefit those who use our new building. Learn more at www.thenewridgefieldlibrary.org.
It's What's Inside That Counts
Tell Us What You Think
As we prepare to occupy the New Ridgefield Library, we are pausing to take a look at the people, programs, collections and services that will fill this wonderful space. The Library Board of Directors has embarked on a strategic planning process, and we would like your input. Starting January 7th and running through the end of the month, we invite you to participate in our Community Survey.  This will be an online questionnaire you can complete at the Library or from your own computer (hard copies will also be available on request). Watch for further news on how you can help us shape the future of our Library or check www.ridgefieldlibrary.org starting January 7th.
