Greetings!

The Bay Area's abundant flowering magnolias, plums, crocuses, and daffodils reassure us that spring is really here. The rich colors can warm us as much as the returning sun.

Just in time for spring, Yoshiko Yamamoto has released a series of "flowers in bloom" note cards (left) and her new full-sized, signed and numbered print,as seen above and in stock in our shop, "Tulip Field Morning."  The print is a blaze of pinks in a valley of soft greens surrounded by distant trees, hills, and a calm spring sky. With this print, springtime can be in your home all year round.

Coming soon, Yoshiko is sending us a second Sunset colorway with lavender mountains, seen here.

Our additional space will house an expanded ready-made frame selection along with a large format printing office to open later this year. This office will allow our customers easy access to consult with Mike, our graphics manager, on photo restoration and other graphic projects.  We will also increase our back room work space.

Before & After Restoration
Before & After Restoration
Great-grandfather (adult) and Grandfather (child) pose for a family portrait in the early 1900s. The dog-eared original has seen a lot of wear and fading with time. It is amazing what digital restoration can do to recapture a family's fading past.
UC Student Fine Art Print Sale
In Conjunction with Cal Day, April 20

During Cal Day last year we visited the Student Fine Art Print Sale in room 255 of Krober Hall on the UC Berkeley campus (click to see map). We were amazed at the 100s of original prints, including etchings, screen prints, and lithographs ranging in size from very small to quite large. The prices ranged from $3 and up. If you're looking for affordable original prints, this is a once-a-year opportunity not to be missed.

Buy a print at the show and frame it for 20% off at The Framer's Workshop! Offer includes ready-mades frames and poster special options but does NOT combine with this month's Member Special Offer.

Answers to printing questions:
How large can my digital photograph be printed?

This is a common question. For printing on an Epson ink-jet printer, we recommend at least 150 pixels for every physical inch of print (more is better).
Image file pixel dimensions shown on a Mac (top) and a Windows PC (bottom)
Image file pixel dimensions shown on a Mac (top) and a Windows PC (bottom)

This means you need to know the actual
pixel dimensions
of your image.

To find out, place the unopened image file on your computer's desktop. On a Mac, by default the pixel dimensions are displayed beneath the file name. On a Windows PC, hover your mouse  over the unopened image icon (see examples, right).

Once you know the pixel dimensions, divide the numbers by 150 to get the maximum number of (rounded off) inches. Using the top example: 3,744 pixels / 150 = 25" and 5,420 pixels / 150 = 36". This photograph can safely be printed up to 36" in length.
