Preservation Framing Class
|
The Berkeley Camera Club came to us for a field trip in February. Kirstie gave a presentation to 20 photographers on many aspects of preservation framing, along with a facility tour and equipment demonstration. Our glass & acrylic vendor, Tru-Vue supplied tote bags containing tape measures and educational literature for each participant. If your organization would like a similar free class for 12-20 students in our shop, please contact Kirstie for details. See more class photos here

The Framer's Outlet Story Part 2
Expanded Framing Options Coming Soon...
 | | The Framer's Outlet Interior |
The debris is cleared, the permits are being reviewed, and we will soon start work on our new space.
The Framer's Outlet will connect to our current space via a wide doorway and will house an expanded ready-made frame collection. In addition to our unique in-house one-of-a-kind frames, we will finally have room to offer you a much better selection of beautiful ready-made frames at budget prices.

Restoration of the month!
Small damaged photo brought back to life.
One of our customers brought this small, badly damaged and faded photo of her mother to us for restoration. The customer requested that more hair be allowed to show along the top and sides, and a blue background added. The original glasses had a slight blue tint to them, so we worked on their color. The damaged original image is only three inches square but the restored enlargement is more than twice that size.

Floater Frames for Works on Canvas
 | | Oil Painting in Floater Frame |
Unlike typical frames that have rabbets* to hold the art and glazing in place, "Floater Frames" are designed to set the frame edge away from a stretched canvas, revealing the painting's edges. In this instance, the canvas edges were taped with black fabric. The Floater Frame is attached to the back of the canvas' stretcher bars. See diagram below.
*The rabbet is the recess on the back inside edge of a frame into which the glass, matting, artwork, & backing fits.
