Wood Block Prints by Jim Meyer
Multiple Run Wood Block Prints

"Buena Vista" by Jim Meyer
Jim Meyer's aim is to reflect the mystery and beauty of nature with his prints. The wood block medium is perfect for this because of its organic and low-tech nature, requiring the patient manual skills of the artist.

Wood block prints are one of the oldest forms of printmaking.  A design is carved into the surface of a flat piece of wood, applying ink to the remaining wood and pressing a piece of paper onto the inked surface.
"River Cliffs," by Jim Meyer

Color woodblock prints are made by using either a separate block for each color (multi-block prints) or by using the same block for each successive color, but cutting parts of the block away after each color is printed (reduction prints).

Meyer's prints have an honest directness that simplifies the shapes of nature into abrupt 'chiseled' gestures that simultaneously construct a rhythmic and enveloping space. His rich sense of color further enhances these small treasures.   Learn more here...

Frame of the Month
Two-Sided Quilt Frames

Oversize Quilt in shadow box frame These two-sided quilts were one of many wonderful jobs we completed in December. We framed these two large memorial quilts in a Picture Woods Quartersawn Oak with silk liners and memorial plaques on each side. Both sides of these quilts is protected with ultraviolet protective acrylic.

Our customer drove a long distance to have these framed, and he was very pleased with the result.

We love to tackle structural challenges. If you are wondering whether or not something unusual can be framed, the answer is almost always "Yes!" Bring in your unusual framing problem or request and let us come up with a solution that preserves the object while displaying it beautifully.
Matting Ideas for Photo Groupings

World War II Portrait
World War II Portrait layout with Specialty Cut Mat

We framed these two WW II Portrait groupings for one of our customers finding creative solutions to multiple problems. First the customer asked us to scan and reprint the photographs so they would all have an identical "aged" black and white tone. We also cropped and enlarged the central figures in some snapshots, as well as adjusting contrast and making other minor restorations. Finally, we devised unique matting designs that unified the look and feel of the portrait groupings.

The next time you need a group of photos matted and framed, let us get creative with your layout!
