Featured Artist Barbara Pihos
| | Barbara Pihos "Quiet Moment" Aquatint |
Barbara Pihos' work is a labor of love. Love for the aquatint medium and the love of unspoiled nature. She begins outdoors with a location that strikes an emotional response. It may be close by or at the end of a long journey in the northern woods. Her detailed style uses two drawings and eight stages of production. Each print takes two to three months to complete. The technical challenge of the aquatint medium, combined with her well-honed skills as a draughtsman, imbue her prints with serene beauty filled with astonishing detail. If you enjoy the repose of a deciduous forest filled with rocky streams, gnarled oaks, wild grasses and the snows of winter, you will marvel at her work. Each piece is like a quiet walk near Walden Pond. We can also order other aquatints by this artist to be framed as you choose. Plaque Your Photos & Prints for Unique Gifts!
An affordable framing alternative & personalized present
November is the month to place your Plaque Mount order for December delivery.
Plaque Mounting is an affordable alternative to traditional picture framing. Although not a preservation framing treatment, it is an inexpensive option for large mounting projects, posters, digital prints, family snap shots, certificates, maps and more. A 5" x 7" photo can be Plaque Mounted for $17.20
Plaque Mounting is offered in three styles with a variety of edge colors. The Box Mount (top right) is a deep presentation that sets the image away from the wall with the most edging color. The Float Mount (right) has minimal edging but also sets the image out from the wall. The Plaque Mount (bottom right) places the image near flush with the wall and is the least expensive option. Coupled with the moisture resistant surface, the Plaque mount can also be used as a table topper or coaster.
Plaque Mounting includes a tough, clear UV protective coating. It is easily cleaned and is suitable for children's rooms.

A Private Back Stage Tour at the Art Institute of Chicago
 | Painting Restoration Project at The Art Institute of Chicago |
October brought a trip to the Windy City! Kirstie met with the Tru Vue advisory group for a day of meetings, and Kirstie & Jeff were invited to tour the private conservation labs with the Tru Vue group at The Art Institute of Chicago.
 | | Kirstie tests glass at the Tru-Vue advisory group all day meeting |
We spent a morning visiting four labs and saw some highly impressive work on a variety of art.
One current project that several museums participate in is the Online Scholarly Catalogue Initiative. Dig deep into this page and you will find what we were privileged to see when we visited the digital lab where conservators X-Ray art in the museum collection and in the chemical labs where they analyze microscopic paint samples. Results show hidden preliminary drawings behind famous works of art, figures added and removed, aging, and much more. The work of this initiative will not only help museums preserve artwork, but it will allow the public to investigate art in a way that would not be possible in a simple print catalog.
This month. in addition to your member coupon, we're offering a Special 10% off Tru-Vue ultimate glazing solutions, Museum Glass & Optium Museum Acrylic . See the notice, left, or Click Here for more details.
