"L" is for all the Lively Discussions we have

"O" is for Our Commitment to each other

"V" because you are Very Very Extraordinary

"E" is Everything you mean to me

It is close to February and as always, love abounds at the fellowship. There are so many happenings that demonstrate our commitment to social justice and serving others it reads like a "love letter" to our communities. This next week the YRUU and Coming of Age students are preparing and serving dinner at our Interfaith Shelter Homeless Shelter.   We have so many youth, that they are doing it on separate evenings!

They will then team up to bring the congregation Restaurant Valentinos on February 28th! It is going to be an amazingly delicious collaboration whose head chef is Susan Pernia. Know that you will all be fed well, and more importantly, you will be served and attended to by polite, clean, and well mannered teenagers. (I will let you digest that sentence.) Yes! Our middle school and high school students will be waiting on you on this momentous evening. So if you are tired and jaded from your interactions with youth in the larger societal context, or from taciturn conversations at home, come to the
Fellowship on the evening of February 28th!

You will leave with a full belly and a renewed sense of hope for the future.

Before I go on, I must give a huge "Thank you" to the board for hiring teachers this year. I can't tell you or express how much this has assisted me in freeing up valuable time to contribute to the larger DRE community on a local and national level. Here are a few of the contributions that I have been able to make this year with more of my hours not dedicated to lining up volunteers for Sunday teaching and assisting positions.

I was able to accept the nomination and was elected as Vice President for the LREDA PSWD Board. LREDA is the Liberal Religious Educators Association and represents DRE's to the UUA. It is a 2 year term and I am honored to serve. On January 9-12th of this year I helped facilitate a national workshop at the Summit Fellowship. We had 2 workshop facilitators come in and teach ministers and DRE's from around the country. It was on Youth Ministry and it was a successful event!

I was also invited by Pat Kahn who is the Children and Family Program Director for the UUA to serve on the Renaissance Program Advisory Team. Renaissance Modules or Programs are the continuing education for DRE's and ministers that are provided to us by the UUA. This team will include a staff member from each of the 5 regions as well as a LREDA board member and a DRE. I have accepted the invitation and will be meeting virtually with the team at the end of the month.

I am reminded of the Worship Associate words on Sunday, "we are a vibrant and active congregation..." it evokes a feeling of holiness as I recall all the activities in just one month we as an RE Program and Fellowship are undertaking. Keep on keepin' on my fellow loved ones. I love and appreciate all of our good deeds and wishes.

In Fellowship,

Alison

Do you like being creative and learning something new at every turn? The Design Review Committee is seeking members with an interest in preserving and enhancing the beauty of our buildings and grounds. DRC evaluates the aesthetic and functional impact of any proposed change to our physical site. Recent projects include choosing, placing and maintaining artworks throughout our site, including the Memorial Wall; redesigning our trash and recycling system for optimal sustainability and neatness; advising on areas that need replanting; and researching the best size and positioning of the AV monitors in Founders Hall. If you have enjoyed visual arts, crafts, gardening, or building-related work, whether at the professional or hobby level, please consider sharing your skills with UUFSD. Cathy Leach-Phillips moderates a lively discussion of what we're currently reading on our own, future recommendations, and, certainly, our book of the month. This month's classic, "A Passage to India", by E.M. Forster, drew mixed reviews, earning 3.5 on our collective 5-star rating system. Verdicts ran from "too dated" to "fantastic."

February's selection is "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking", by Susan Cain. Join us at 7pm, Monday, February 9.  Questions?  email [email protected]
